In celebration of UV Halad Pasalamat Ika-Dose nga Bahin, the University of the Visayas – Gullas Law School, through the Gullas Institute of Legal Aid Services, Inc. (GILAS Inc.), successfully brought FREE LEGAL SERVICES closer to the community.

From legal consultations on VAWC, support, succession, land disputes, adoption, and other civil and criminal concerns—to the free drafting of affidavits and notarization (for qualified cases)—this initiative reflects our continuing commitment to public service and access to justice.

In celebration of the UV Halad Pasalamat, the University of the Visayas – Gullas Law School, through the Gullas Institute of Legal Aid Services, Inc. (GILAS Inc.), invites the public to avail of FREE LEGAL SERVICES specially prepared for the community.

Gullas Institute of Legal Aid Services, Inc. (GILAS Inc.) will offer free legal consultation on various criminal and civil law concerns, including but not limited to:

• VAWC, Abandonment & Support
• Succession and Partition
• Errors in the Birth Certificate and Other Public Documents
• Land Dispute / Ejectment
• Adoption
• Possible Violations of Criminal and Civil Law

We will also provide free drafting of simple affidavits and other legal forms, such as:

• Affidavit of Loss
• Affidavit of Two Disinterested Persons
• Affidavit of Legitimation
• Affidavit of Paternity and Recognition
• Affidavit of Cohabitation
• Demand Letter for Support
• Other Kinds of Affidavits

Likewise, free notarization will be provided in all applicable cases, except for business or commercial transactions, such as:

• Deed of Sale and Contract of Lease
• Promissory Note or Loan Agreements
• Mortgage or Security Agreements
• Corporation and Partnership Matters
• Other matters pertaining to business or collection cases

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐉𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐨 𝐆. 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐬 of RTC Branch 17, Cebu City, administered the oath of office to the Level 1 Certified Law Student Practitioners of the University of the Visayas – Gullas Law School under the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP).

This significant milestone marks the students’ formal entry into clinical legal practice — a vital step in their pursuit of justice, public service, and professional growth.

Also present during the ceremony were Dean Atty. Joseph Randi Torregosa, Assistant Dean Atty. Darling Chyrmyth Wagas-Estorgio, GILAS Director Atty. Chevrolie Isoto, and Atty. Yves Mariene de la Peña.

Just seven (7) days following their Oath-Taking and Signing of the Roll of Attorneys, seven (7) new Visayanian Lawyers experienced a “full circle” moment when they returned to their alma mater yesterday, February 1, 2025, to join GILAS Inc. during the UV Halad Pasalamat 2025. The said event, which is an annual community outreach thanksgiving activity of the University of the Visayas, was its “Year 11” celebration. From previously participating in GILAS legal aid activities as Law Student Practitioners (LSPs), these new Visayanian Lawyers enthusiastically and passionately served as Supervising Lawyers (SLs), guiding and mentoring the present CLEP 2 students of Gullas Law School, while giving back to the community, namely:

Law Clinic of UV Gullas Law School productively spent its holiday last January 29, 2025 strategically planning and organizing the CLEP Activities for this Second Semester of A.Y. 2024-2025. Last January 24, 2025, the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and the Gullas Institute of Legal Aid Services (G.I.L.A.S. Inc.), Law Clinic of UV Gullas Law School, meaningfully forged a collaborative partnership in order to implement their respective programs aimed at providing practical learning opportunities to GLS Law Student Practitioners (LSPs).

The CDA innovated a program dubbed as “CDA Laws Awareness Program” or CLAP wherein cooperative laws, rules and regulations shall be introduced to law students and thereafter applied by them in the conduct of their legal duties either in the CDA or cooperatives.

On the other hand, Clinical Legal Education Program or CLEP is an experiential, interactive, and reflective credit-earning teaching course with the objectives of providing law students with practical knowledge, skills and values necessary for the application of the law, delivery of legal services and promotion of social justice and public interest, especially to the marginalized, while inculcating in the students the values of ethical lawyering and public service. Under Rule 138-A, CLEP may be undertaken either in a law clinic or through externships with the courts, IBP, government offices, and NGOs.. G.I.L.A.S. Inc. is the organization tasked to administer the CLEP of UV GLS.

The MOA-signing was held at the GLS Moot Court on January 24, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. It was attended by no less than Asec. Myrla B. Paradillo, OIC Chairperson, Cooperative Development Authority, and Mdm. Cristina H. Villamil, Regional Director, CDA Region VII Extension Office, and their CDA Staff headed by Atty. Fritzie L. Uchibori and Atty. Ronalyn M. Torres. Meanwhile, G.I.L.A.S. Inc. was represented by its President/Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Atty. Chevrolie E. Maglasang-Isoto, who is also the CLEP/GILAS Director of UV GLS, together with the dynamic Dean, Atty. Joseph Randi C. Torregosa, and a number of GILAS Officers.
