Just a little traceback,it was in 1974 when the Lions Club International,District 301,began the tradition of honoring women, aged 21-45 years, for the significant and trail-blazing contributions to society. They selected nine women of distinction who became the first batch of what we now call the TOWNS Awardees; Sen. Letecia Ramos-Shahani,Justice Flerida Ruth Romero,Perla Santos-Ocampo,Rosa Rosal,Boots Anson-Roa,Edita A. Tan,Mona Dumlao Valisno,Aida D. Eugenio & Medina H. Delmendo. While the first TOWNS Search was conducted by the Lions in 1974,soon thereafter, the awardees banded together and formed the TOWNS Foundation which has since been the primary mover for the triennial search Lions International, has however remained a close ally.
The first Chair of the TOWNS Foundation was former Senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani.Other two notable awardees were Senators Meriam Defensor Santiago (1995) and Loren Legarda (1995). Justice Flerida Ruth Romero of the 1st batch became justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. Princess Emily Marombhasar (1977) became president of Mindanao State University. Letty Jimenez-Magsanoc(1981) and Jullie Yap-Daza (1983) are editors-in-chief of the two countries leading newspapers.
Dr. Mina is someone we can look up to as an image of true pride and honor for Alegria.
KUDOS and BIG SALUTE!
