LOOK: AB Economics students, under Econ 124 class, took a coaching session with Namalata Tamala Law and Partners for their upcoming Service-Learning activity in Barangay Bayanga.

Econ 124 is a major subject that covers modules on economic and legal rights of women and children. At the end of the semester, the students are required to share their insights to a selected community —combining service and learning.

Econ 124 is under the advisory of Atty Kristine Mae P Japos, who is a faculty member of Economics Department and Managing Partner of the Namalata-Tamala Law Office.

ECONOMIC AND LEGAL RIGHTS OF WOMEN, CHILDREN

Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan and the Cagayan de Oro City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) have agreed to bring the Economics major class of Atty Kristine Mae P Japos to Bayanga, which is a rapidly growing hinterland barangay in Cagayan de Oro City.

Third year AB Economics students will undergo a Service Learning Program (SLP) where they will apply the theories, discussed in class, to a selected community. Their Economics Journal Seminar subject centers on the economic and legal rights of women and children.

In partnership with the Namalata Tamala Law and Partners, three series of community engagements will be conducted in indetifying the most pressing concerns on economic and legal rights. The highlight is a free legal clinic and information drive to women and children in Bayanga.

Today a formal meeting was conducted to seal the partnership. Present are representatives from Xavier Ateneo, CSWD and the Barangay Government of Bayanga.

Last March 14, Namalata Tamala Law and Partners in partnership with LTO Region X, provided free legal aid in celebration of Women's Month.

The firm's team of lawyers for the event all consisted of empowered women in the legal community, Atty. Kristine Mae Japos, Atty. Rotcelyn Abis, Atty. Lourdes Faye Tandayag, Atty. Audrey Anne Sumogue CPA, and Atty. Jasmine Naomi Sweet Tamala. They were able to cater various legal concerns and assist with notarial needs.
