The Xavier University Center for Legal Assistance (XUCLA), in collaboration with the Movement Against Disinformation, invites student journalists to attend

This seminar-workshop, designed to confront the challenges of legal warfare against the press, will be held on June 5, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Xavier University Audio-Visual Room (AVR).

Derived from the Latin phrase meaning "let him beware," the workshop aims to foster honest conversations about the reality of lawfare and to encourage practical readiness among campus journalists. The program will feature real-world insights from a media practitioner and a legal expert as they attempt to chart common patterns of legal harassment, focusing closely on the risks, rights, and responsibilities that come with doing journalism today.

We look forward to welcoming our invited student journalists for a day of collective learning and dialogue.

On May 1, 2026, law student interns from the Xavier University Center for Legal Assistance joined medicine students from the XU Dr. Jose P. Rizal School of Medicine (XU-JPRSM) on our first-ever medical-legal aid mission in Alubijid, Misamis Oriental.

Embodying the timeless Jesuit principle of cura personalis, we extended legal aid and healthcare, affirming our commitment to holistic service for the underserved. Invited guest speakers from PhilHealth, Atty. Almira Flor Arellano-Hussein and Atty. Aiza Cagampang, also presented talks on universal healthcare and the National Health Insurance Program.

Our deepest gratitude goes to XU-JPRSM for this invaluable partnership and opportunity, and to our volunteer lawyers who made the legal mission possible. May this be just the start of many more partnerships between the School of Medicine and School of Law ahead.

From the high ridges to the coastal fringes, every hand that tills the soil and every heart that seeks shelter shares a stake in our common home โ€” woven together by a commitment to a stewardship that knows no fences, no greed, and no exceptions.

By exercising care for the environment just as we exercise care for our person, we acknowledge that the protection of earth is inseparable from the protection of our people. Justice and environment remain heavily intertwined with each other, that we try our hardest to ensure that the generations to come will not be the ones left to bear the heaviest burdens of climate change.

Join us on May 2, 2026, at the XU Little Theatre from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, as we walk through the stories nurtured and the beliefs carried faithfully in championing narratives of communities, through the lenses of the clinics, in

Beyond the headlines of pursuing retribution lies a starker reality: justice is often stalled behind the bars of our nationโ€™s most overcrowded facilities. In the Philippines, where jail congestion rates are among the highest in the world, the "slow grind" of the legal system is more than just an inconvenience โ€” it is a crisis of human rights that disproportionately silences those already living on the edges.

Through jail decongestion, we form a commitment to ensuring that no one is forgotten in a cramped cell simply because they lack the means to navigate the system. By streamlining legal processes and providing proactive support, we do not just clear space in the penitentiary; we restore human dignity.

Democracy is the heartbeat of a resilient society โ€” a shared promise that every voice carries weight and every person has a seat at the table. True peace is more than just the absence of conflict; it is the presence of justice, built on a foundation of mutual respect and the courage to protect our collective freedoms.

In a world of shifting tides, our democratic ideals require constant care and active participation. By fostering civic engagement, championing transparency, and bridging divides through genuine dialogue, we strive to build a future where peace is sustained by equity. When we empower the community to speak, we strengthen the very pillars that uphold our shared humanity.

Join us on May 2, 2026, at the XU Little Theatre from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, as we walk through the stories nurtured and the beliefs carried faithfully in championing narratives of communities, through the lenses of the clinics, in

In the field of labor, justice is not abstractโ€”it is found in fair wages, security of tenure, lawful benefits, and in the protection of those who continue to give their labor despite evolving challenges.

By engaging directly with workersโ€™ concerns, guiding them through processes, and making labor rights accessible and understandable, the Clinic affirms that the law must not remain distant, but must move with the people it seeks to protect. Across every activity, one principle remained constant: justice is best pursued not from a distance, but through pagduyogโ€”walking with people, understanding their realities, and empowering them with the law.

Join us on May 2, 2026, at the XU Little Theatre from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, as we walk through the stories shaped and the commitments carried forward in

On April 18, 2026, the Peace and Democracy Clinicโ€™s CLEP 1 and 2 members, alongside XUCLA interns and a dedicated team of lawyers, Atty. Bonna Lora Soriano, Atty. Francesca Tanya Borja, Atty. Ariane Corcono, Atty. Bianca, and Andrea Miranda Bince, conducted ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—น, a legal aid mission at Barangay Gusa.

The mission served as a profound realization of the gap between academic law and community reality. For the organizers, the experience underscored that the legal profession extends far beyond technical expertise; it serves as a vital bridge for those who feel marginalized by a system that often appears prohibitively expensive or dauntingly complex.

By providing free services, the team aimed to empower constituents who might otherwise avoid the legal system entirely. The significant emotional and mental burden carried by residents overwhelmed by legal challenges was evident, and the high turnout confirmed a substantial, unmet demand for accessible legal assistance at the grassroots level. This initiative illustrates the essential role of community-based programs in fostering a more inclusive justice system.
