The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division has issued arrest warrants against Libacao, Aklan Mayor Charito Navarosa, Vice Mayor Vincent Navarosa, and three others for alleged violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (RA 3019, Sec. 3[b]) and Direct Bribery (Art. 210, RPC).

The accusedโ€”also identified as Peter Zapues Orbista, Gary Rivera Gaylan, and Sherwin Floresโ€”were each allowed to post bail of โ‚ฑ90,000 for graft and โ‚ฑ60,000 for direct bribery.

The PNP, NBI, and CIDG have been ordered to serve the warrants within 10 days, with compliance reports required under Rule 113 of the Rules of Court.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan, chair of the 2026 Bar Examinations, has announced as the official hashtag for next yearโ€™s exams during a meeting with law school deans on August 14, 2025.

A San Beda College of Law alumnus (Class of 1983), Justice Gaerlan previously served at the Public Attorneyโ€™s Office (1990โ€“1993) before being appointed as the 187th Associate Justice of the Supreme Court by former President Rodrigo Duterte on January 8, 2020.

Known for his expertise in constitutional law, obligations and contracts, and legal ethics, Justice Gaerlan will oversee the countryโ€™s most anticipated licensure examination for aspiring lawyers.

Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto III on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, moved to table the motion seeking the dismissal of the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

During plenary deliberations, Sotto asserted that โ€œa motion to table takes precedence over a motion to dismiss,โ€ effectively halting any immediate action on Senator Rodante Marcoletaโ€™s earlier call to junk the complaint.

The motion now awaits resolution as the Senate considers its next steps on the politically charged case.
