βοΈβπ₯π Dismantling the Paper Walls: A Bonifacio Day Reflection
* Atty. Angelisa L. Razo
On this National Day of Protest against massive corruption, we are reminded that resistance takes many forms. Andres Bonifacio tore up his cedula to reject oppression. Today, we fight by tearing down the "paper walls" of a weaponized legal system.
If there is any credit our legal team can take for the release of political detainees within this year, it isnβt due to extraordinary litigation prowess. It was simply our presence. We used the system against itself by simply showing up.
π’ The Architecture of Intimidation
For years, detention has been weaponized to stifle dissent. They threw voluminous case files - daunting stacks of paper designed to intimidate handling lawyers and exhaust public attorneys. To the untrained eye, it looked like mountains of evidence.
But we stood our ground. We looked closer. And we found that these mountains were built on air.
These files contained nothing of value. They relied on "phantom" warrants and witnesses who never appear during trial. It is a massive waste of judicial resources and a calculated strategy to sow fear.
π¨π§π½ββοΈUsing the Law to Break the Lawfare
We are dismantling this machinery using the rule of law itself.
1. Technology as a Truth-Teller: With the aid of AI, we audited these massive files to expose the "copy-paste" nature of the evidence - recycled narratives and repeated names that prove this was not laziness, but an intentional design.
2. The New Standard: We are leveraging the DOJβs 2024 Rules on Preliminary Investigation and Inquest Proceedings. By elevating the quantum of evidence to prima facie with a reasonable certainty of conviction, we are forcing the system to filter out its own lies.
πποΈ Visibility is Resistance
The cases collapsed because we were available for those few minutes when they were called.
When we push back, the facade crumbles.
As we commemorate Bonifacio Day and the National Day of Protest against massive corruption, we fight against a system that tries to silence dissent with paper walls and phantom threats.
