What’s scarier than the grueling Bar exams or a high-stakes court trial? Trying to sound cool in front of a room full of Gen Z teenagers! 😅
The moment I took the microphone yesterday, September 22, my biggest fear was that one of them would suddenly ask me to explain the law in the form of a 15-second TikTok dance.😁
But taking a brief respite from the chaotic grind of my legal practice to step back into the familiar halls of my beloved Alma Mater, Trinity Christian School-Bacolod, felt like coming home. I was incredibly honored to speak to our Senior High School students for Career Day.🥰🙏
Looking at those bright young faces at the crossroads of their lives, a deep rush of emotions hit me. I saw myself more than two decades ago, sitting in those exact same seats. I humbly narrated my arduous journey from law student to full-fledged attorney to show them one crucial truth: the values, morals, and knowledge instilled in me by TCS, coupled with an unyielding faith in the Almighty, are what make the impossible attainable.
Like these students, I am also a newbie in this new chapter. As lawyers, we are bound by the maxim Fiat justitia ruat caelum—let justice be done though the heavens fall. But to pursue justice without letting my own world fall apart, I know human intellect is never enough. In this profession, the absolute slightest wrong move could put my career and my beloved family in peril. This is exactly why I must continuously seek God’s guidance, silently praying for His wisdom before every step.🙏🙏
I truly enjoy being a lawyer, constantly reminding myself of this truth: the brilliance of a lawyer is never measured by the volume of their arguments, but by the depth of their empathy and the quiet peace they restore to lives entangled in chaos.
It is my humble prayer that the knowledge I imparted yesterday helps these eager minds decide their path, and that my small contribution forms part of the greater advocacy of Trinity Christian School in producing quality, values-driven graduates.
I sincerely hope they took my life advice on hard work and faith to heart. But honestly? My biggest personal victory of the afternoon was just making sure nobody fell asleep while a lawyer was talking! 😄
My most heartfelt gratitude goes to my Alma Mater, Trinity Christian School, the School Head, Ms. Esther Jane Y. Uy , the Principal, Ms. Lynn B. Tanjusay, the Student Services Head, Ms. Ma. Teresa Joy B. Coscolluela, the SDAC Head, Jeremie C. Repogio, the Event Coordinator, Elikah Danielle B. Abay, and to all faculty, and personnel for this profound privilege.🙏😇🙏
And to the students who patiently sat through my talk (and stayed awake!)—thank you for letting me share my story.🙏🥰🙏
All by His grace. 🙏⚖️✨🙏
