Tatay Diosdado Evangelista, born on Sept. 18, 1953, at Hda. Ipil, Hinigaran, Neg. Occ., has lived a life shaped by perseverance and quiet courage. In 1959, his family moved to Candoni, Neg. Occ., a place that would eventually become the heart of his personal and educational journey.
In 1972, he pursued a 2-year vocational course in Auto Diesel Mechanic at Justiniani Motor Institute, equipping himself with practical skills for work and livelihood.
By 1974, he married Ofelia Garcia (deceased) and was later blessed with four children. His sense of responsibility for his family motivated him to work harder. In 1977, he underwent Free Licensing Training for Private Security Guards, and in 1981, he took the entrance exam for Sipalay Marinduque Mining Industrial Corporation, where he served as a company guard for two years until his voluntary resignation in 1984.
From 1985 up to the present, Tatay Diosdado dedicated himself fully to farming. Through farming alone, he was able to raise and send all four of his children to finish their studies. Despite the hardships, he remained steadfast, a man who believed in providing the best for his family.
In 2016, with his children already successful in their own professions, Tatay Diosdado finally decided to pursue the dream he had long set aside: a college education. One pivotal moment strengthened his resolve when he was deceived in one of his livelihood activities involving wood delivery. Because he had no formal credentials, others could easily take advantage of him. That experience motivated him to return to school and secure the education he knew he deserved.
In 2018, he enrolled at CPSUโCandoni Campus under the BSED (Science) program before shifting to the Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness (BSAB) program. In 2023, at the age of 69, he proudly graduated, achieving a milestone he once thought impossible. Today, at the age of 72, he is a Registered Agriculturist, proving that perseverance and commitment can turn long-awaited dreams into reality.
His journey to professional licensure came with challenges. Tatay Diosdado took the Civil Service Examination only once, but he did not pass. As for the Agriculturist Licensure Examination (ALE), he did not pass on his first attempt. Yet he never surrendered. He kept trying, and this year, he finally passed the Agriculturist Licensure Examination, becoming an inspiring example to students of all ages.
Despite the struggles he faced in school, he set them aside, knowing that education was a dream he wanted to fulfill. He shared that time management is essential, especially when balancing work and studies.
His heartfelt message to students reflects the wisdom of a life lived with purpose:
Today, Tatay Diosdado stands not only as a graduate and a licensed agriculturist but also as a symbol of ageless perseverance. His journey reminds everyone that dreams do not fade with time, they simply wait for the right moment and the right courage to be fulfilled.
