As Wills Month comes to an end, we’re reflecting on a recent event celebrating a new way to give back to te taiao in your Will. 🌿

Earlier this month, our Associate Rachel Ivess was pleased to speak at the launch of the Northland Environment Fund in Kerikeri. The fund supports initiatives that restore and protect Northland’s natural environment while creating employment, education and community opportunities across Te Tai Tokerau.

Rachel spoke about the importance of having a Will, and how easy it can be to include a gift to a cause you care about. Including a charitable gift can be a meaningful way to give back to the causes and places that matter to you, even after you’re gone.

A great initiative supporting Northland and te taiao for generations to come. 💚

We remember with fondness and gratitude Jim Kilpatrick, a much-loved former Director and a significant part of the history of WRMK Lawyers, who passed away peacefully last week.

Jim began his legal career in 1973 as a law clerk in Wellington, beginning a journey that would span more than four decades. In 1993, he and Neil McNab formed Urlich McNab Kilpatrick, building a practice that would go on to merge with Webb Ross in 2012 to become Webb Ross McNab Kilpatrick Limited (WRMK Lawyers) as we know it today.

After many years of dedicated service to the legal profession and the firm, Jim retired from his life as a lawyer and Director in 2018, leaving behind a lasting legacy and a firm that will always carry a part of his story.

Highly regarded by colleagues and clients alike, Jim was known not only for his professionalism, fairness and dedication, but also for his kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humour. He was a true gentleman who always made time for others.

His contribution to the firm and the wider Northland community will not be forgotten. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our heartfelt condolences are with Jim's family and loved ones at this time.

Yesterday marked an exciting milestone for two of our recent law graduates, Rutu Hebbal and Mackenzie Paul, as they were admitted to the bar at the Whangārei High Court! They are now one step closer to officially becoming Lawyers, with their practising certificates the final piece of the puzzle. 👏

Rutu, from our trusts and life planning team, had Team Leader and Director Tania Beckham as her moving counsel, while Mackenzie, from our employment law team, had fellow team member Georgia Blockley as her moving counsel.

We're incredibly proud of them both and were delighted to celebrate their achievement with a special morning tea, joined by their families and also celebrating Caitlin Halls, who was admitted in July and is now a practising Lawyer in our Warkworth team.

Continuing the firm tradition, all three received a kōwhai tree to mark the occasion. A symbol of new beginnings and growth, the kōwhai reflects the opportunities and potential ahead. We hope these trees serve as a lasting reminder of this achievement and of how proud we are of their accomplishments as they continue to grow and thrive.

A huge congratulations to Rutu and Mackenzie on their admissions, and to all three as they continue this exciting next chapter.
