Have you spotted the Hobec team walking around Tauranga city centre a lot this week? It's not just because the weather has been perfect for a stroll. We've been taking part in The Good Walk in support of Good Neighbour.

A big shout-out to our team for getting behind such a great cause. Hannah, Michelle and Mikaela, Bridget and Laura, Lanna and Shania, Tizi, Bryn and, notably absent from the photo, Ben, have all completed their laps over the past week. And yes, coffee stops are permitted.

You can get behind The Good Walk too by making a donation - as one of the match-funders, Holland Beckett will match the amount raised, helping support Good Neighbour's work in our local community.

The Great Hobec Bake-Off continues to deliver a dangerously good lineup of sweet treats. Over the past few months, our Rotorua team has enjoyed:

• Kayla's Cookie Monster cookies
• Tessa's triple chocolate caramel-filled gooey cookies
• James' dangerous chocolate, caramel and almond slice
• Rochelle's "carro-nana" cake (carrot cake and banana cake had a beautiful baby)
• Shannon's Bananas in Pyjamas banana chocolate chunk cookies
• Tash's lemon shortbread
• Victoria's tiramisu tart (also looking quite dangerous!)

The competition remains fierce, but the real winners might just be everyone lucky enough to sample the entries.

We've been sitting on this photo for a few weeks, waiting for our position on the leaderboard to become a little more presentable...

Now sitting comfortably in the middle of the rankings, it feels like the right time to introduce our The Clubhouse IGC Business House Golf team.

With five of eight rounds complete, they've found some form and are heading into the final three rounds with a little more confidence.

Great work Josh, Ryan, Connie and Ella. Looking pretty sharp, too.

Things have been getting seriously competitive in our Rotorua office with The Great Hobec Bake-Off.

Weekly morning teas have become a test of baking skill and creativity, with strict scoring criteria and the title of Bake-Off champion on the line. Before we crown this year's winner, we thought we'd share the creations so far. First up we have...

• Chantelle's dark chocolate cupcakes with whipped ganache and a Caramilk drizzle
• Stevie's brownie pops (extra points for the presentation?!)
• Charlene's classic Victoria sponge
• Maddie's "Young Mad Slice" aka hedgehog slice
• Terry's almond and peanut brownie cookies

September is Wills Month, making it a great time to ensure your estate planning reflects your current circumstances.

If you, like many Kiwis, own property, investments or other assets overseas, it's important to understand how different jurisdictions can affect the administration of your estate.

In this article, Partner Rebecca Steens outlines some of the key issues to consider when preparing a Will that covers overseas assets, and explains why advice that takes into account the laws of each relevant country can help avoid complications for your loved ones.

As part of Wills Month, we offer free or discounted Wills for people who choose to leave a gift to charity in their Will. Learn more: https://hobec.co.nz/new.../2024/08/september-is-wills-month/

Our latest Payroll Giving recipient has been chosen!

This quarter, our Payroll Giving funds of just over $2,800 were earmarked for a Whakatāne charity, with our team voting to decide which organisation would receive the donation. The successful recipient was Have A Heart Charitable Trust heart.

Have a Heart's mission is to mobilise neighbourliness to relieve hardship and help build resilient families. Through low-cost groceries with free incentives, welcoming community spaces, and practical support for individuals and whānau experiencing hardship, they provide both immediate assistance and pathways to longer-term wellbeing.

Our Payroll Giving programme is one of the ways we put our Champions of our Communities value into action. We feel privileged to be able to support the organisations that strengthen our local communities. Keep up the great work, Have a Heart!

Some serious focus yesterday as we continued our Te Wiki o te Reo Māori celebrations with a second weaving workshop led by Julie Paama-Pengelly and Kalena Egan, Putiputi Recycled.

In this session, Julie taught us her unique raranga pōrangi ("mad weave") technique for creating the stars, or celestial bodies, featured in the third basket of Māramatanga in our reception space.

As with Māramatanga, we worked with recycled aluminium blinds. We each made one or two stars and gained a whole new level of appreciation for Julie, who created around 400 of them for Māramatanga!

Thank you to Julie and Kalena for sharing their time, knowledge and skills with us this week.
