I’m a Warriors fan… football finals keep us on the edge of our seats… I’m still holding the faith… this has been a great year for us and the next two weeks promises even more

They'll play again next week in a sudden death finals match against Newcastle next week in Auckland.

From opposing counsel to co-counsel 🤝

Jack Hodder ONZM KC and I have gone head-to-head across the bar table more times than I can count — some we've lost, some I’ve won. We go again against each other on a case next year. This week, we're on the same side of a case together 😅
I've been reading Jack's writing since I became a lawyer in 1985 when he was editor of The Capital Letter and I used to read it like it was the Woman's Day of its time.

I have insurmountable respect for Jack's legal mind and that photographic memory of his — the kind of mind that's genuinely a privilege to watch work. It's been an incredible week for me just hanging around it.

That's the legal frat for you — small, sharp, and full of surprises. Today's rival is tomorrow's ally. I love that my baby boomer generation maintain our friendships once we walk out of court. I hope it never changes.

“When the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill was resoundingly defeated at its second reading in parliament, it seemed like Te Tiriti was safe. It was not.” — Jack Potaka.

🖊️ Erica Stanford and her red pen! First she removed books with Maori words and now documents show the government cut the Treaty of Waitangi as an overarching principle of its school curriculum rewrite two years ago but quickly back-tracked on the idea.

Every second Tuesday, veteran teacher Jo Patrick stands outside the Education Minister's electorate office with a recorder and one clear message:

"Stop undervaluing us."

After years in the classroom, Jo says teachers are exhausted, stretched to breaking point, and tired of feeling unheard. Her fortnightly musical protest is about standing up for every educator and every child who deserves a well-funded public education.
