While you can include preferences in your Will, sometimes arrangements are made quickly and it can be helpful for your family to already know your wishes. Help them get it right - there is a big difference between Amazing Grace and Another One Bites the Dust! 😂

As part of Dying Matters Week Aotearoa 2026, New Zealanders were asked what song they’d like played at their funeral — and the results range from the beautiful and traditional to the wonderfully cheeky.

"I will buy your skateboard for $200 *𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻* that when I check my bank account there is $200 in it. I'll let you know by Friday. And then I'll pay you on Monday and we'll get this all *𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗱*."
..Just a casual conversation between Teresa and one of her teens recently, explaining the difference between a conditional date and a settlement date 😄 Because as one of her lecturers used to say, if you can't explain legal concepts to your kids, then how can you explain them to your clients?

Throwback to Teresa's admission day, the 30th of September!

Being admitted to the bar is a formal process that all lawyers must complete before practising as lawyers. The ceremony is undertaken in the High Court, where friends and family can support from the gallery. Formal dress and robes are required but the wig is a ceremonial option these days.

In smaller areas like Whanganui, the Judge also takes the opportunity to deliver personal notes to each of the candidates during the ceremony, making the day truly special and memorable. In this photo, Teresa is signing the roll of barristers and solicitors of the High Court of New Zealand which is done just after the conclusion of the ceremony.

This Christmas, we are creating a Christmas Lights Trail to give families another reason to visit, explore and enjoy the Rangitīkei.

From Marton to Bulls, Hunterville and everywhere in between, we are inviting homes, rural properties, neighbourhoods and local businesses to help light up our district.

Your display does not need to be enormous. A decorated gate, festive shop window or a few strings of lights can all add to the magic.

This month we say a bittersweet goodbye to our solicitor Harriet Dawson-Farrell, who is going on maternity leave.

Harriet joined the Law Corner team last year and has proved herself to be a quick learner and an empathetic listener. Her clients appreciate the way she explains processes and next steps, especially our first home buyers.

We wish Harriet and her family all the very best for the arrival of their new baby, and look forward to welcoming you back next year! 👶👣

Do you have a special place to keep all your important papers? Maybe it is a box under your bed or that dusty shelf above the fridge. Or is your Birth Certificate folded into 16 little squares and slowly wearing away? (Yes we have seen it all! 😁)

If you have a teenager about to finish school, how about putting together a Turning-18 Pack? It could be a clear folder that includes their birth certificate, IRD number, proof of citizenship/residency, and school achievement certificates. Having these original documents kept safe will help when they apply for their first job or home loan.
