We all know when a difficult work conversation needs to happen. The challenge is often actually having it.

DTI director and employment law specialist Andrea Twaddle shares why getting employment law advice early can help employers approach difficult conversations with a clear strategy and greater confidence.

The Employment Leave Act 2026 is here and set to replace the Holidays Act. It's the largest overhaul of New Zealand's employment law around leave in decades so it's important for employers to understand the new framework and the steps they need to take before it comes into effect.

Join DTI employment director Andrea Twaddle and People in Mind for a practical session covering key changes, impacts on employers and payroll, and what businesses should do to prepare for the transition. Hosted by the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce NZ, this is a must attend session for Cambridge employers.

Date: 28 October
Time: 7.30am to 8.40am
Venue: The Clements function room

We are seeing many free Wills and Will templates being advertised - but is a free Will really free?

In this video, DTI director Hayley Willers explains why a free Will can sometimes end up being one of the most expensive documents your family ever relies on.

If it's been a while since you reviewed your Will, contact us to check that it still works for you.

Most of us assume we'll have plenty of time to get our affairs in order. But life doesn't always work that way.

In this video, DTI lawyer Emily Schwikkard explains why it's important to plan ahead and have the right documents in place before they're needed.

If you'd like to talk about Enduring Powers of Attorney, Wills or planning for the future, get in touch with our team.

W**e, cheese and some important conversations about planning for the future. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our W**e, Cheese and Wills evening last Thursday.

A highlight of the evening was hearing from Janice Lapwood from Momentum Waikato Community Foundation, who spoke about charitable giving through Wills and the ability to support the communities and causes you care about.

A great evening, and plenty to think about. For more information contact us at [email protected] or Momentum at [email protected].

Your Terms of Trade may look fine on paper, but will they protect your business when you actually need to rely on them?

Outdated terms, generic templates, or terms that were never properly provided to customers can create problems when a dispute or unpaid invoice arises.

DTI director Hayley Willers looks at what effective Terms of Trade should cover, why how you use them matters, and when it may be time for a review.

Who would you trust to make important decisions for you if you couldn't make them yourself?

It's not something we like to think about but is an important question. A Will sets out what happens once you pass away. Enduring Powers of Attorney help protect you whilst alive, by allowing people you trust to make decisions for you if you're unable to make them yourself.

In this video, DTI director Hayley Willers explains why every adult should have both a Will and Enduring Power of Attorney in place, regardless of age.

Talk to Hayley or the DTI team if you'd like to get yours sorted.
