Good news for eligible international students! 🎓🇳🇿

Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is now available as a provider under the Funds Transfer Scheme (FTS), giving eligible students more choice alongside ANZ.

The FTS provides a secure way for eligible students to transfer and access their funds while studying in New Zealand.

📌 The scheme is currently available to eligible students from China, India, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

🏫 For university and polytechnic students: BNZ and ANZ are available under the scheme.

🏫 For Private Training Establishment (PTE) students: ANZ remains available, as BNZ is not currently offering FTS to students outside universities and polytechnics.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭𝟲 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: Family members of New Zealand citizens or residents applying for temporary entry visas will be able to submit new applications through enhanced Immigration Online.

INZ is also updating immigration instructions to improve clarity and is pausing some further visa transitions while the Our Future Services programme is reassessed.

📢 NEW INZ UPDATE: Minimum Age Introduced for Partnership-Based Visas
From 25 September 2026, new age and evidence requirements apply to dedicated partnership-based visa categories.

👫 Both partners must be 18 or older when the application is made.

📄 Partnership evidence must also be from after both partners turned 18.

Evidence from before both people were 18 will not be used by Immigration New Zealand to assess the relationship.

💙 Which visas are affected?
The changes apply to partnership-based:
• Visitor Visas
• Work Visas
• Residence Visas
• Culturally Arranged Marriage Visitor Visas

This includes partnerships with a New Zealand citizen, resident, work visa holder or student visa holder.

⚠️ Important for couples:
For partnership-based residence, the 12-month living-together period can only start counting once both partners are 18 or older.

🇳🇿 PARENT RESIDENT VISA – ACTION REQUIRED FOR SOME EOIs

If your Parent Resident Visa EOI is due to expire before 5 October 2026, you may need to take action if you want to retain your place in the queue.

📅 From 5 October 2026:
• Approximately 90% of EOIs will be selected in the order they were received.
• Approximately 10% will continue to be selected through a random ballot.
• EOIs in the ballot on 5 October will no longer expire.

⚠️ If your EOI expires before 5 October:
If you want to retain your original submission date, a new EOI may need to be submitted. You cannot have two EOIs in the pool at the same time, so you may need to wait for the current EOI to expire or withdraw it before submitting a new one.

✅ If your EOI is still valid on 5 October:
You do not need to take action right now. It will automatically transfer to the new pool, and INZ will contact EOI holders or their advisers with further information about their queue position.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The Parent Resident Visa provides a pathway for eligible New Zealand citizens and residents to sponsor their parents for residence in New Zealand.

📌 Important deadlines for students:
🎓 SGWV: Apply within 3 months of your student visa expiring. Students whose visa expired before 16 August 2026 will not be eligible for the SGWV when applications open.

🎓 PSWV: Applications must be submitted within 3, 6 or 12 months of your student visa expiring, depending on your study and visa circumstances.

⚠️ From 16 November 2026, paper applications for the PSWV will no longer be accepted. Paper applications submitted on or before 15 November 2026 will continue to be processed.

Immigration New Zealand has announced important changes for applicants in Tonga and Samoa.

📍 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗮
From 𝟭𝟰 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, a new VAC will open in Nuku’alofa, Tonga.

✅ Paper applications should be lodged through the VAC
✅ Face-to-face services will be available
✅ Longer daily opening hours
✅ Appointments can be booked
✅ A VAC service fee will apply
✅ Recognised Seasonal Employer visa applications must also be submitted through the Tonga VAC from 14 September

🇼🇸 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗮𝗻 𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲
From 𝟳 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, Samoan Quota Resident Visa applicants will submit their paper applications, supporting documents and application fee directly to the Apia VAC.

📌 Important: Immigration New Zealand Apia will continue to assess and decide applications. The change only affects how applications and documents are received and digitised.
