As an employer, you can support a highly skilled migrant in relocating to the Netherlands together with their partner and children. This may include a spouse, a registered partner or an unmarried partner. In many cases, minor children can also relocate with them.

The right documentation is essential. This may include:

🔸 IND application forms;
🔸 A marriage certificate or proof of partnership;
🔸 Documents demonstrating the relationship;
🔸 Birth certificates for children.

The exact documentation required depends on the country of origin and the family’s personal circumstances. That’s why it’s important to look beyond the paperwork and also consider the practical aspects of the move.

For example: Can the partner work in the Netherlands? Which schools are available for the children? And what is required to register with the local municipality?

A highly skilled migrant needs guidance from day one.

When welcoming international employees, the focus is often on their arrival. The flight is booked, the first working day is scheduled, and everyone is working towards that one important moment.

But the phase that truly makes the difference starts after they arrive: the first few weeks in the Netherlands.

This is when they still need to register with the municipality, open a bank account, arrange health insurance, and begin building their daily life.

• How does public transport work?
• What should be arranged first?
