The town of Prijedor, in north-western Bosnia and Herzegovina, was the site of some of the most horrific crimes committed during the 1990s conflicts in the former Yugoslavia.
These crimes were brought to light during proceedings before the ICTY and the Mechanism. The Judges were able to establish facts about the events in Prijedor as a result of survivors and other witnesses coming forward and giving evidence.
In addition, they relied on the statements made by a number of accused persons, who pleaded guilty to charges in their indictments and spoke about their role in the crimes.
The IRMCT pays tribute to the victims of the crimes committed in Prijedor.
