If you’re planning to backpack around Vietnam at your own pace, you may not need a visa at all. An e-visa is only required if you intend to stay for more than 45 days, up to a maximum of 90 days. This should give you more than enough time to explore the country. Irish travellers must obtain a visa for the full duration of their trip. The visa becomes valid from the exact date you specify on the application form, and you must select a departure date no later than 90 days after your intended arrival. Once the application has been submitted, the e-visa is usually approved within 13 days. You have the option to submit an urgent application. Urgent applications are usually approved within 5 days.
