It is in the interest of Justice, that there should be an institution saddled with the responsibility of maintaining equilibrium and peaceful coexistence between persons, organisations, parastatals etc, as Justice is a three way traffic; Justice to the Accused, to the Aggrieved and to the Society.
Apropos to the above, the Law Students Association of Nigeria, University of Uyo, on the 1st of December, 2023 held her Call to Bar/Opening of Legal Year with the theme, The Law As A Symbol of Justice For The Society
The import of this being that the persons so called to the LAWSAN Bar, now have the right to appear and defend their clients in the LAWSAN High Court, Elections Petition Tribunals and up to the Apex Court; the LAWSAN Court of Appeal.
Also, with the Opening of the Legal Year, cases can now be filed and entertained in the courts.
It's also however pertinent to note that these cases are not fictitious cases but real life cases surrounding student activities in the faculty and beyond, with penalties which are as grave as that affecting the status of your studentship as Court Judgements are enforced by the School/Faculty Management.
The ceremony also saw the inauguration of Judges and Justices, of which I was privileged to be inaugurated for a second term, as a Justice of LAWSAN's apex court (The LAWSAN Court of Appeal).
I must of neccessity, congratulate the Head of the Judiciary; the President of the LAWSAN Court of Appeal, Hon Justice Regina Jackson as well as the Chairman of the LAWSAN Bar, Elijah Umoh SAL, for spearheading such locus classicus ceremony.
God bless the LAWSAN Bar
God bless the LAWSAN Judiciary
God bless Faculty of Law
Hon. Justice Kunam Isemin
Justice, LAWSAN Court of Appeal
