⚖️AI drafts, Lawyers protect⚖️

Recently, there has been a surge in the use of AI to prepare legal documents, case in point, Contracts. Now, I understand that AI exists to make our lives easier but using AI tools to draft contracts or any legal document, without a lawyer´s oversight, may seem to be fast and cheap, but it can be a costly mistake.

A client reached out to me to help review a contract he was about to sign. Upon examination, I discovered some missing clauses like the ´termination clause´ and ´dispute resolution clause´, which poses serious legal and commercial risks to the parties, and upon further investigation, I found out the contract was prepared by AI.

In other cases, we find that some AI generated contracts are filled with ambiguous and unnecessary terms which do not serve the subject matter of the contract, and they also lack industry-specific requirements.

These kind of contracts poses risks to the parties involved which then leads to disputes, losses and/or endless litigation.

You may opt to use AI´s assistance in drafting but it should never replace the expertise of a qualified lawyer. Contracts should always be reviewed, and preferably prepared by qualified lawyers as this ensures that the contract is in compliance with the law, aligns with clients´ interest and includes the necessary protection.

-All business owners duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and those intending to register should please take note.

-The Corporate Affairs Commission has reviewed certain service fees such as registration fees, annual returns, etc, and this will take effect from the 1st of August 2025.

-Also note that annual returns payment for the year 2024 will be due by June 30th, 2025 after which fines will accrue.

-The importance of making hay while the sun shines cannot be overemphasized at this point.

-The best time to register that business was yesterday, the second best time is now!!!
