Thank you NBA-SLP for this insight section on Surrogacy Regulatory Framework, I believe Surrogacy has come to stay in Nigeria and we must develop our laws and framework.

29/10/2024

In Nigeria, divorce is a legal process that involves the dissolution of a marriage, and it can only be granted by a court and not mutual consent of parties (signed divorce papers) as we see on Nollywood.

Signed divorce papers are alien to Nigerian laws.

Grounds for Divorce

To apply for a divorce, one or both spouses must demonstrate that the marriage has broken down "irretrievably."

Nigerian law recognizes specific grounds for this, including:

Adultery

Desertion for at least one year

Cruelty or unreasonable behavior

Separation for at least two years.

Separation for at least three years (if one party files for divorce).

Continuous lack of physical or emotional connection between spouses.
