BEHIND THE CONVERSATION | THE EXPERIENCE SHAPING THE CICC WEBINAR

What does more than three decades of senior in-house legal experience bring to a conversation about avoiding costly arbitration mistakes?

A practical understanding of what can go wrong long before a dispute reaches the tribunal.

We are pleased to spotlight Justina Lewa, MCIArb, Partner at Chapitre LLP and Webinar Coordinator for this CICC webinar.

Justina is the immediate past Company Secretary & Chief Legal Counsel of Sterling Bank Plc, with over three decades of experience spanning banking, commercial transactions, corporate governance, legal advisory and dispute resolution.

Her experience includes advising on complex project and asset-based financing, debt and equity transactions, loan syndications, power, oil and gas, mergers and acquisitions, as well as negotiating and resolving commercial and employment-related disputes.

A member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, she brings the perspective of an experienced General Counsel who understands that successful dispute resolution begins long before the hearing—with sound contracts, effective internal processes, proper documentation, early risk assessment and commercially informed decision-making.

As Webinar Coordinator, Justina has helped shape a conversation designed to move beyond legal theory and focus on the real-world mistakes, lessons and strategies that can make the difference between a great case and a terrible outcome.

💡 GREAT CASES. TERRIBLE OUTCOMES.

*MEET OUR MODERATOR | ASKING THE QUESTIONS THAT MATTER*

*What makes a great arbitration conversation? The right questions—and a moderator who knows where to find them.*

We are pleased to have *Mr Harold Uku* moderate our upcoming CICC webinar.

Harold has over 12 years of legal practice experience spanning dispute resolution, corporate and commercial practice, and in-house legal practice in the financial services sector.

He currently serves as **Assistant Manager, Legal & Corporate Services at FirstTrust Mortgage Bank Plc**, where he leads the Bank’s dispute resolution portfolio and provides legal advisory support across its operations.

His experience spans commercial litigation, domestic arbitration, mediation, mortgage and finance disputes, settlement negotiations, arbitrator appointments and arbitration-related procedural applications.

Having worked both as external counsel and in-house, Harold brings a practical understanding of the intersection between **dispute strategy, risk management and commercial realities**.

As moderator, he will draw on this experience to ask the questions that matter, challenge assumptions and draw out the practical lessons from our distinguished panellists.

He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Mediators & Conciliators, a member of the FinTech Association of Nigeria and the Nigerian Bar Association, and was appointed a Notary Public of Nigeria in 2025.

With a panel spanning international arbitration, leading private practice and senior in-house counsel, this promises to be a candid and highly practical conversation.

💡 **GREAT CASES. TERRIBLE OUTCOMES.**

OUR DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER | WHEN LEGAL STRATEGY MEETS BUSINESS REALITY | MR SESAN SOBOWALE

*What happens when arbitration strategy meets real-world business priorities?*

That is precisely the perspective *Mr Sesan Sobowale* brings to our upcoming CICC webinar.

Mr Sobowale is Principal Partner of **Levante Solicitors**, a boutique commercial law and regulatory governance advisory firm. Before establishing the firm, he served as *Head of Legal Services and General Counsel at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc*.

With over three decades of experience, his career spans commercial legal practice, corporate relations, governance and senior business leadership across FMCG, telecommunications, banking and financial services.

His experience includes senior legal and corporate leadership roles at Guinness Nigeria Plc, where he served at different times as Company Secretary/Legal Adviser and Corporate Relations Director.

As a former General Counsel and senior business adviser, he has confronted the questions that matter when a business faces a major dispute:

Should we arbitrate? When should we settle? What will the dispute really cost the business? Are we protecting the company’s commercial interests? And what happens after the award?

At the webinar, Mr Sobowale will bring the In-house and business-user perspective, helping us examine how legal teams and businesses can avoid costly dispute-resolution mistakes and ensure that a legal victory ultimately translates into a meaningful commercial outcome.

Expect a candid conversation about strategy, risk, commercial judgment and the real-world consequences of arbitration decisions.

💡 **GREAT CASES. TERRIBLE OUTCOMES.**
