The Federal High Court in Abuja has voided the 2027 election timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). “NBA Publishes 70 Names In LPDC Directions” — Issues Caveat That Appeals Operate As Stay Of Ex*****on Pending Supreme Court Decision

The Nigerian Bar Association has published the Directions of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee on its website, while cautioning lawyers and members of the public that all published directions remain subject to appeal under the Legal Practitioners Act. In a caveat accompanying the publication, the NBA stated that where an appeal has been filed against any direction of the LPDC, such appeal operates as a stay of ex*****on pending the determination of the appeal by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), at its meeting held on Thursday, 7 May 2026 in Awka, Anambra State, unanimously objected to the requirement that civilian legal practitioners appearing before Courts Martial must appear robed. The Council considered the letter dated 27 April 2026 addressed by the NBA President to the Chief of Army Staff concerning the directive contained in a recent Convening Order establishing a Court Martial to try officers and men accused of plotting a coup against the Federal Government.
