Nigeria Begins Enforcement Of $40m English Judgment Against Bashar, Ultimate Oil & Gas

Enforcement proceedings have commenced in Nigeria against assets linked to Alhaji Abdulrahman Musa Bashar, Chairman of the Rahamaniyya Group of Companies, following orders issued by the Federal High Court to give effect to an English judgment in Nigeria. ECOWAS Calls For Stronger Enforcement Of Court Judgments, Appeals Division To Bridge Justice Gap

The Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has commenced consultations on the proposed establishment of an Appeal Division, a reform that could significantly change the court’s current judicial structure. At present, judgments of the ECOWAS Court are final and are not subject to ordinary appeal. The proposed Appeal Division would therefore introduce a new layer of judicial review within the regional court system. Uber shuts down operations in Nigeria, Uganda

Uber, a global ride-hailing company, has announced plans to exit Nigeria and Uganda, effective September 2. According to a statement by the company’s spokesperson on Wednesday, the decision to discontinue operations in Nigeria is not related to the airport ride hailing service reform by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). In August, FAAN restricted operations of ride hailing companies in Nigerian airports, but later cleared Bolt, Uber’s market rider, for operation.
