Transforming Nigeria’s Insurance Industry.
On August 5, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025 into law, the most comprehensive review of Nigeria’s insurance framework in decades.
NIIRA 2025 repeals outdated laws, consolidates fragmented regulations, and introduces a modern legal framework designed to:
✅ Strengthen financial stability through higher capital requirements
✅ Foster innovation with recognition of digital insurance platforms
✅ Protect policyholders with clearer consumer rights and faster claims processing
✅ Raise professional standards among intermediaries
✅ Align Nigeria’s insurance sector with global best practices
This landmark reform is not just about compliance, it’s about building a stronger, more competitive, and more trusted insurance market that can drive Nigeria’s economic growth.
📌 Insurers and stakeholders now have 12 months (till July 30, 2026) to meet the new requirements.
The future of insurance in Nigeria has arrived, modern, resilient, and inclusive.
