In a Room Full of Experts, I Learned One Simple Truth.

Some time ago, I had the privilege of being part of a team of some of the most brilliant industry experts invited to review a proposed bill before it proceeds to the National Assembly.

As I looked around the room, I was struck by the wealth of knowledge and experience represented.

These individuals, leaders across various sectors, did not acquire their expertise overnight. It took years of hard work, focus, and determination to get to where they are today.

That moment reminded me of something worth sharing:

✅ Growth takes time, consistency, and resilience.

So, if you’re on your journey and it feels tough, don’t give up.

📌 Keep building yourself.

📌 Stay focused.

📌 Stay determined.

📌 You will get there.

It’s a brand new week and the perfect time to set the ball rolling and take one more step toward your goals.

🔹 Better still, seek legal advice.

It’s just the LAWgical thing to do.

Because what starts as a friendly favour could end as a legal nightmare.

Would you register your company with any member of your family as director or shareholder? Would you put your family on your Company’s board? Or do you prefer external professionals?

The truth is you actually can.

In fact, many businesses start this way.

But here’s the real question:

Do your family members understand what it means to be a director?

Do they know their names will appear publicly on the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) records?

Do they realize they could be liable for decisions made by the company?

Being a director is not just ceremonial. It comes with legal duties and responsibilities.

If they’re not involved in the day-to-day operations, it’s best to give them shareholder roles, not directorships.

A shareholders’ agreement is also very crucial even when it’s family.

Love doesn’t prevent misunderstanding.

Documents do.

If you’re adding your spouse, sibling, or parent, have a simple agreement in place that clearly outlines roles and ownership.

Don’t confuse “family loyalty” with “corporate structure.”

The law doesn’t.

Let your business stand on proper legal footing from day one.

Last week was a whirlwind of inspiration and learning.

I had the privilege of attending The Business of Law Conference 7.0 as well as the Ikeja Branch Law Week, two power-packed events that left me energized and deeply reflective.

I walked away with several key reminders that I’m carrying into this new week:

Stay self-motivated. There will be tough days, days when giving up feels easier than pushing forward. But growth comes when we keep moving and keep showing up.

Take ownership of your work. Everything that carries your name or signature should reflect excellence.

Be intentional about your personal brand. Your name is a reputation, treat it with care.

Embrace feedback. Even when it’s hard to hear, sift through the noise and act on the constructive pieces. That’s how we grow.

Be reliable. Show up. Follow through. Be someone others can count on.

Persistence and tenacity matters. Success isn’t always about speed, it’s about staying power.

Here’s to a purposeful and productive week ahead. 💼💪

Mindset

I left my house very early this morning determined to beat the Lagos traffic and get to Court before 9am based on my past experiences with Lagos traffic.

Trust me, the fear of Lagos traffic is the beginning of wisdom.

I was shocked to realize that the road was free and traffic was very light. In fact, I got to Court earlier than usual. It then occurred to me that it is still the early days of the year and activities have not fully picked up in the State.

Then I thought to myself…..

Sometimes, we live life based on our past experiences whether good or bad. We already have a fixed mindset of how things will turn out judging from things we have been through or things that has happened in the past.

But one thing I am sure of is that when you go from a fixed mindset to an open mindset, a new world of possibilities opens up.

With the right mindset, we learn from the past and not judge today or the future with the experiences of the past.

With the right mindset, we learn to take each day a step after the other.

With the right mindset, there is room for improvement and boundaries are broken.

With the right mindset, we will always find opportunities in everything.

What mindset have you developed in the past. It is a new year, let’s start on a clean slate.

Happy New Year once again. It is going to be a wonderful and amazing year.
