๐ REAL MATTERS IN REAL ESTATE
๐ฌ Can the Average Lagosian Still Afford a Home?
There used to be something called The Lagos Dream.
A belief that with hard work and grit, you could transform your life โ
from a Ghana-Must-Go bag and big dreamsโฆ
to stability, dignity, and homeownership.
But today?
That dream feels like itโs slowly slipping away.
Lagos has never been for the weakโฆ but now, even the strong are feeling the heat.
๐ Skyrocketing rents
๐ธ Inflation eating income
๐๏ธ Rising construction costs
๐ผ Salaries that refuse to rise
Young professionals earning โฆ150kโโฆ500k are asking themselves:
โWill I ever own my own home?โ
Still โ thereโs one thing about Lagosiansโฆ
We. Donโt. Quit.
Innovative developers are emerging.
Mortgage options are evolving.
Rent-to-own and cooperative housing are becoming real pathways.
Some Lagosians are co-owning homes.
Others are expanding into emerging growth axes โ
Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ikorodu, Badagry.
Because the Lagos spirit is built on resilience, creativity, and belief.
We donโt surrender dreams โ we find new routes to them.
Yet the question still standsโฆ
Is home ownership still realistic for the average Lagosian?
Housing isnโt a luxury.
It's dignity.
It's stability.
Itโs belonging.
If Lagos will remain The Centre of Excellence,
then excellence must be accessible โ not exclusive.
Affordable housing must go beyond policy statements.
It must become a promise and a priority.
The Lagos dream shouldn't die โ it should evolve.
And we must evolve with it.
๐ Your thoughts? Can the average Lagosian still own a home in this economy?
