Mercy Johnson Ozioma Okojie popularly known as Mercy Johnson is a famous Nollywood actress, chef, model, producer, philanthropist and a television personality.
She is known worldwide for her ability to cry in movies. She is very beautiful, gifted, skillful, creative and talented in acting and interpretation of movie roles. She knows how to interpret her roles very well and can fit in any character given to her by movie directors and producers in Nigeria.
She is originally from Okene, a small town in Kogi State in the south southern part of Nigeria and had her first taste of education in Calabar where her biological father resides. She completed her primary school education in Calabar, and her secondary school education in Port Harcourt. While in Port Harcourt, she attended Streams State Secondary School and Nigerian Navy Secondary School Port Harcourt, where she obtained her West African Senior School Certificate. While still in school, she was actively involved in drama and performing arts.
After completing her secondary school education in Port Harcourt, Mercy Johnson relocated to Lagos to search for greener pastures. Mercy Johnson couldn’t complete her education to university level after failing JAMB twice. She decides to relocate to Lagos to search for green and pastures and while in Lagos she was introduced into the Nigerian movie industry popularly known as Nollywood by a friend.
Mercy Johnson Joined the Nigerian movie industry popularly known as Nollywood in 2004. In 2005, she rose to fame after starring in the Nollywood tragic movie “The Maid” in which she performed the role of a house help. The movie was a sorrowful movie and due to her ability to cry she killed the role by displaying amazing skill. The movie “The Maid” won her the award for Most Promising Actress in Nigeria at the 2005 Africa Movie Academy Awards.
She has starred in over 260 movies. She is currently one of the most gifted and most accomplished actresses in Nigeria
In 2009, she won an award for Best Supporting Actress at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. In 2013, she won Best Actress of the Year at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards for her role in “Dumebi”. In 2010, she won Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Best of Nollywood Awards. In 2012, she won Best African Actress at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards.
On 1st April 2017, Mercy Johnson was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Kogi State Governor on Entertainment, Arts and Culture.
Mercy Johnson Okojie – Before fame and success, one of Nollywood’s highest-paid actresses, Mercy Johnson once worked as a housemaid and also failed JAMB before landing a breakout role in the movie ‘The Maid’.
