In Nigeria, Annual returns made to the Corporate Affairs Commission is different from the Tax returns paid to the Federal Inland Revenue Service(FIRS)
Though the common similarity is that all existing companies are mandated to file annual returns.

In the case of the Corporate Affairs Commission the aim is to show that your business is still functioning. Whether or not profit is realized.

Furthermore, the company in default may be treated by the CAC as a defunct company and such company may be delisted from the list of the companies by the commission.

Based on the Companies and Allied Matters Act ( CAMA) 2020, the Commission has stopped the issuance of hard copy certificates.

All original certificates are now E-Certificates with WR Codes to enable customers print their certificates.
