Speaking up should never lead to fear.
Speaking up should never come with threats.

Parents have the right to ask questions and children deserve safe, positive spaces to learn.

Do not stay silent.
Report intimidation. Hold institutions accountable.

Fewer than 30% of judicial positions in Nigeria’s superior courts are held within a system that is meant to reflect the full breadth of its society.

That gap was the starting point in Abuja.

Over two days, this retreat convened her initiative team as part of FIDA Nigeria methodology & processes to strengthen inclusion and advancement within the judiciary—moving beyond observation to examining the institutional processes that shape appointments, career progression, leadership selection, and workplace standards.

What became clear is that these outcomes are not incidental. They are shaped by how systems are structured—how criteria are defined, how decisions are made, and how progression is enabled or constrained over time.

The retreat produced a shared direction for the design phase of this initiative: a closer engagement with federal and state judicial service commissions, and a focus on practical reforms—from structured career development and mentorship to accountability mechanisms and routine reviews of institutional practices.

Across ten states and at the federal level, this work now moves into structured consultations, research and learnings —grounded in a clearer understanding of where change is required and how it can be sustained.

The conversations have set the direction.
The next phase will define the outcomes and set the strategy.

Ending sexual and gender-based violence requires deliberate action, strong institutions, and sustained collaboration—not just commitments.

Earlier this week, FIDA Nigeria received International IDEA at the National Secretariat on a courtesy visit to officially mark the commencement of the EU-funded ESGBV Programme.

The engagement focused on strengthening legal and institutional responses, while improving access to justice and support services for survivors.

The priority now is clear—translating this collaboration into real protection, real access to justice, and real change for those affected.

Wishing you a Joyous Easter filled with love, hope, and new beginnings for you and your family

A NATION IN PAIN

How many more lives must be lost before decisive action is taken to protect innocent citizens?

Jos is bleeding.

Homes have been shattered. Families torn apart. Mothers are burying their children. The silence of those we have lost echoes louder than any words we can offer.

This is not just another incident.
This is a tragedy we are becoming too familiar with — and that is the real danger.

We refuse to normalize bloodshed.
We refuse to accept a reality where innocent lives are taken without consequence.

This cannot continue.

We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved and stand in solidarity with all those affected. We call for all-round support — medical, psychological, and humanitarian — for survivors struggling to rebuild their lives.

We demand immediate, decisive, and sustained action to end this cycle of violence. The safety of citizens is not optional — it is a fundamental duty.

Those responsible must be held accountable.
Communities must be protected.
Lives must be valued — not mourned in repetition.

Nigeria cannot keep bleeding.

Every life lost is a failure we must not accept.
Every community deserves to live without fear.

Laws alone cannot end Gender-Based Violence — people must.

FIDA Nigeria convened the 2nd Multi-Stakeholders Dialogue in Ekiti State from March 26–27, 2026, bringing together key actors across different sectors in a structured, two-day engagement.

Day One focused on engagement with religious leaders, recognizing their influence in shaping values and social norms. Discussions examined the intersection of faith, harmful practices, and GBV, while strengthening commitments to safeguarding policies and promoting gender justice within communities.

Day Two brought together government actors and civil society organizations to assess gaps in existing legal frameworks and explore reforms needed to strengthen survivor-centered and prevention-focused responses to GBV.

This dialogue reflects a deliberate approach — engaging critical stakeholders within their respective spheres of influence to drive more effective and sustainable outcomes.

With support from the Ford Foundation, this dialogue was successfully convened.

Ending Gender-Based Violence requires collective responsibility and sustained action.
