The Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), Professor Abdulqadir Ibrahim Abikan, PhD, fIAIB, has been conferred with the Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna of Sokoto Integrity Legacy Platinum Leadership Award and the Medal of Honour as “Garkuwan Matasan Arewa” (Icon and Cynosure of Nation Building) by the Northern Youth Organisation of Nigeria (NYON).
The award was presented by the President of the Organisation, Dr. Isah Ododo, alongside members of the leadership team: Hon. Mohammed Abdulrazaq (Spokesperson), Ambassador Verlumun Gajir, Comrade Jamiu Otokunrin, and Danjuma Bulus, during a courtesy visit to the Institute’s Headquarters in Abuja.
According to the Organisation’s Spokesperson, Hon. Abdulrazaq, the honour recognises Professor Abikan’s outstanding contributions to purposeful leadership, institutional development, integrity, and youth empowerment. The Director General was also inducted into the Northern Youth Organisation Hall of Fame.
Receiving the award, Professor Abikan expressed appreciation for the recognition, commending the Organisation for promoting values of patriotism, leadership, and youth development. He reaffirmed his unwavering belief in Nigeria’s immense potential and encouraged young Nigerians to remain committed to nation-building, integrity, and excellence.
Speaking during the presentation, Dr. Ododo noted that the award reflects the values of integrity, transparency, accountability, and service embodied by the late Sir Ahmadu Bello. He added that Professor Abikan’s leadership journey serves as an inspiration to young Nigerians.
Present during the conferment were the Institute Bursar, Mr. Abdul Ganiyu Olaniyan, FCA, and the Deputy Institute Secretary (Information and Publicity), Mrs. Naomi Echor, AMNIM.
