BY THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 35(6) OF THE 1999 CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA (AS AMENDED) ANY PERSON WHO IS UNLAWFULLY ARRESTED OR DETAINED SHALL BE ENTITLED TO COMPENSATION AND PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM THE APPROPRIATE AUTHORITY OR PERSON.
To this end if you have ever been arrested or detained by the police or any other law enforcement agency or person for no just cause you can approach a high court in State where the arrest and or detention took place for redress and compensation. You can do this either through a legal practitioner of your choice or personally. Note: you can approach the court even after more than 20 years.
