"Palm oil is entering an important new phase; yes, not quite the “wild west it used to be” but we are not out of the woods yet. In fact, I would argue that we are at a pivotal moment to build on progress or risk losing hard won gains."

A recent Vox article declared that palm oil is not so bad anymore, citing declines in palm oil related deforestation, zero deforestation commitments, and the efforts of watchdogs. While progress has been made, I want to sound a note of caution.

You may love it or hate, fact is, palm oil has become part of our lives. "50 Shades of Green - The complex story of palm oil" is now openly available on YouTube exploring the myriads of opinions and perceptions on this "green cancer" vs. "green gold", we tried to convey the message that the only possible way forward for people & nature lies in sustainability & transparency.

"Southeast Asia houses three of the world's largest palm oil producers, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand that together accounted for almost 90% of palm oil produced in 2015. Over the years, there is an overemphasis on the negative impacts of irresponsible oil palm cultivation practices without sufficient consideration on the complexity and nuances of different issues surrounding the palm oil industry has led to international consumer backlash, an anti-palm oil stance from European governing bodies, and consequently retaliatory stances from palm oil-producing nations. The effects of this anti-palm oil campaign on different stakeholders of this industry now challenges efforts to push for sustainable palm oil, which arguably can meet the palm oil demand while mitigating threats to biodiversity."

This documentary by Universiti Sains Malaysia & Sustainable Palm Oil Movement attempts to go beyond the binary on the issue of palm oil praise vs. boycott. 50 Shades of Green: The Complex Story of Palm Oil. By Andy Siti Nurhidayah, Zul Ikhwan, Dr. Khayriyyah Mohd Hanafiah, Dr. Nadine Ruppert."

Rodents can pose a financial risk to oil palm plantation managers as they can cause significant damage to crops, potentially reducing yields by up to 10%. Anticoagulant rodenticides are often used to eradicate or manage rodent populations.

A recent study assessed the risk of exposure to wildlife species known to hunt on palm plantations.

Rodents gnawing on oil palm crops can be a costly business. One study estimated that they can reduce yields by as much as 10%. Among the means used to tackle rat infestations: deploying barn owls and domestic cats, or putting out bait laced with rat poison. A recent review, published in the journal....

Namanya orang utan. Nama Inggeris pun 'orangutan'.
Terdapat 3 jenis orang utan - orang utan Borneo, Sumatra & Tapanuli.

Perliharalah Orang Utan.
Sayangilah Orang Utan.
