Steven Nyu is the founding and senior partner of Messrs. He attained a Higher Diploma in Business Management and started off his career in the insurance industry where he was an assistant manager at an established insurance firm before embarking on his journey towards legal practice. Steven holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours
) (“the LL.B”) from the only private and independent university in the United Kingdom, the University of Buckingham (“Buck”), and a Master of Laws (“the LL.M”) from the University of Nottingham (“Nottingham”). Due to his excellent achievements, he was notably awarded a scholarship from Buck to study for the LL.B and a bursary from Nottingham to do the LL.M. Steven went on to study for the Bar Vocational Course (“the Bar”) at the University of the West of England, Bristol where he was one of only three (3) Malaysians who achieved ‘Very Competent’ (overall) and the only Malaysian who was awarded ‘Outstanding’ for Professional Conduct, a feat that indicates the highest code of trust, responsibility, accountability, integrity and professionalism. Steven started his legal career as a chambering student at Messrs. Zaid Ibrahim & Co. (“ZICO”), the largest law firm in Malaysia, and was subsequently retained as an Associate at the Financial Services Department, a department which was in alliance with the award-winning global law firm, Singapore’s Allen & Gledhill. Steven then continued to practise in the field of corporate and commercial transactions but widened his practice to include real estate and property transactions at Messrs. Shook Lin & Bok, one of the big 3S (the others being Skrine & Shearn Delamore), before being made a partner at Messrs. CS Wong & Partners where his main areas of practice were civil litigation and conveyancing matters. During his years of practice, Steven has provided legal advice to prominent individuals and well-established companies including Cagamas Bhd, Linklaters (UK), the family of the late former Deputy IGP Tan Sri Jaffar bin Abdul, the Government of Japan, the European Commission, Malaysia Airlines Bhd, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd and the Lion Group and has gained extensive experience in many types of commercial work. Sim Bee is the partner of the Firm. Graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Second Class Honours) from the prominent University of London in 2005, she enrolled herself and graduated with the Malaysian Legal Qualifying Board for the Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) examination in 2007. Sim Bee started her legal career when she was a pupil reading in chamber of Mr. Phee Boon Leng (Mr. Phee) of Messrs Phee & Co. Under the guidance of Mr. Phee, she was exposed to a wide range of conveyancing matters such as drafting and preparation of the Sale & Purchase Agreements, preparation of loan documentations and other related matters. Throughout her pupillage period also, one of the most valuable experiences she gained was where Mr. Phee took her under his wings and represented the Housing Developer; Messrs Cerah Bakti Sdn Bhd (Developer) in preparing and convening the first Annual General Meeting in accordance to the Strata Titles Act 1985 to form the Joint Management Body between the Developer and the unit owners of a housing project known as Menara Greenview. As the ‘Phee family’ is often associated with local politics, Mr. Phee is none other than the brother to the Penang State Executive Councilor; Mr. Phee Boon Poh. Tan was thus introduced into politics during the Nation’s 12th General Elections wherein she volunteered to monitor the electoral rolls and was the representative sent to participate in a highly guarded and scrutinized vote-counting process when the ballot box seal was broken. Sim Bee was admitted and enrolled with the Malaysian Bar in January 2009 as a qualified Advocate & Solicitor of Malaya. Thereafter, she joined the prominent famous criminal lawyer, Dato’ Sithambaram s/o Vairavan (Dato’ Sitham) at Messrs Sitham & Associates as a Legal Associate in February 2009. Throughout her days as a Legal Associate under the guidance of Dato’ Sitham, Ms. Tan has assisted him both in criminal trials and in civil cases mainly on personal injury claims; in particular in defending the insurance company; Oriental Capital Assurance Berhad, and financial institutions. Thereafter, Sim Bee joined Messrs Amir & Lee as a Legal Associate; a firm providing mainly for real estate conveyancing matters including drafting of legal documentations, preparing loan documentations as well as general drafting of agreements. Furthermore, Sim Bee continues to be an Advocate and has given advice to large and prominent companies especially in construction and electronic related companies such as the established multi-national aluminum company; Fujisash Sdn Bhd and Chiptronics Sdn Bhd; a company that specializes in manufacturing complicated electronic equipments. Messrs Amir & Lee is also the panel lawyer to Human Dynamic wherein Sim Bee has provided her legal advice to a group of professionals such as engineers. Throughout her practice, Sim Bee has single-handedly argued her appellate cases before the Court of Appeal and have had her matters presided before Federal Court Judges.
