Biophilic design is an architectural and interior design framework that integrates nature into built environments to improve human health, well-being, and cognitive function.

Rooted in innate evolutionary affinity for the natural world, it relies on daylight, living plants, natural materials, and organic patterns.

Scientific research shows that intentionally integrating nature into everyday spaces measurably relaxes autonomic nervous system.

Mental Health:

▶️ Reduced stress, lower anxiety, and expedited healing in healthcare settings.

▶️ Performance: Enhanced focus, greater creativity, and improved productivity in workplaces.

▶️ Long-term Wellness: Strong emotional attachments to spaces and improved cognitive processing.

Core Elements & Implementation:

1. Nature in the Space (Direct Experiences)

▶️ Natural Light:
Maximizing access to daylight and establishing strong visual connections to the outdoors.

▶️ Water Features: Incorporating the sight and sound of moving water to reduce stress.

▶️ Plant Life & Biodiversity: Utilizing living walls, varied botanical species, and tactile greenery.

▶️ Sensory Variability: Allowing for subtle shifts in airflow, temperature, and natural acoustics.

2. Natural Analogues (Indirect Experiences)

▶️ Organic Materials:
Using tactile, earth-friendly materials like timber, stone, cork, bamboo, and clay.

▶️ Natural Patterns:
Incorporating fractals, organic curves, and geometries found in nature into floor coverings and wall treatments.

▶️ Nature-Inspired Colors: Using earthy palettes to echo the local landscape.

3. Nature of the Space (Spatial Experiences)

▶️ Prospect and Refuge:
Designing spaces that provide a feeling of shelter (refuge) while offering broad sightlines and visibility over a larger area (prospect).

▶️ Mystery & Risk:
Providing partially obscured views or sensory intrigue that encourage exploration and engagement with the space.

The need to create a residence that could also serve as an office led PsA Architecture to adopt a modern design with a minimalist interior for the TT House.

Positioned in a new residential area in Da Nang, Vietnam, this dwelling boasts complete infrastructure, moderate construction density, a tranquil environment, and proximity to the Han River. Spanning a construction area of 168m2, TT House functions as both a home and office for a family of four.

Leveraging the advantage of a spacious 315m2 plot, the architects strategically designed setbacks on all sides, particularly the front and back yards.

This thoughtful approach aims to enhance sunlight efficiency and ventilation for TT House. The inclusion of corridors and gardens with abundant greenery not only contributes to air purification but also instills a sense of peace and comfort within the family home.

The three-level structure of TT House allocates the first floor for office work and dedicates the second and third floors to family living spaces.

Characterized by simple geometric lines that prioritize proportions over intricate details, the design creates a harmonious transition and a natural, refreshing lighting effect.

To infuse the living space with light and intimacy, the architects opted for minimalist and uniform materials, juxtaposing white walls with natural wood furniture.

This meticulous design imparts a sense of stability and impressiveness to the overall interior of TT House. The inner courtyard, featuring a skylight, a pond, and greenery, serves as the focal point around which all family activities and office work revolve.

This inner courtyard functions as a connecting axis between main spaces, fostering constant visual and verbal interaction among family members, thereby enhancing closeness and bonding.

Moreover, it serves as a point of interaction between indoor and outdoor atmospheres, offering a direct connection with nature that can mitigate the heat of summer or diminish the chill of winter winds.

In essence, TT House is a seamless integration of living and work areas, balancing efficiency with the vital bonding function. It provides comfort and convenience for family activities, presenting a harmonious blend of a functional workspace and a cozy home.

Location: Da Nang, Vietnam.
