Partner visa fees jumped on 1 July 2026 Body: The base application charge is now $11,710 (up from $9,365) β€” one of the largest dollar increases across all visa types. The fee covers both the temporary and permanent stages, but it's non-refundable if you're refused.
At this price, a weak application is an expensive mistake.

"We need to be married before I can apply for a Partner Visa."

Not true! πŸ’

Australia's Partner Visa recognises de facto relationships too. You may be eligible if you can show:

βœ… You've lived together (typically 12+ months), OR
βœ… Your relationship ( not marriage ) is registered in an Australian state/territory

What matters most is proving your relationship is genuine and continuing β€” through your shared finances, living arrangements, social life, and commitment to each other.

Married, engaged, or de facto β€” there's likely a pathway for you. The evidence you prepare makes all the difference.

πŸ’¬ Wondering if your relationship qualifies? Our initial consultation is FREE β€” let's map out your pathway together.

πŸ› οΈ Engineers: You're One of Australia's Most Wanted

Civil. Mechanical. Electrical. Software. If you're a qualified engineer, Australia's skilled migration program was practically built for you.

Here's why engineers have an edge:

βœ… Engineering occupations sit on the priority skilled lists β€” opening pathways to the 189 (Independent), 190 (State Nominated) and 491 (Regional) visas
βœ… Strong demand driven by Australia's infrastructure and construction boom
βœ… Clear skills assessment pathway through Engineers Australia β€” including the CDR route if your qualification isn't Washington Accord accredited

But here's what trips people up πŸ‘‡
Your ANZSCO code matters more than your job title. Two engineers with the same degree can end up with completely different visa options depending on how their skills assessment is framed. Getting this right before you lodge is everything.

Wondering where you stand? Our initial consultation is completely free β€” we'll map your qualifications, experience and points position to the right pathway.

πŸ’” "We're married β€” so the visa is guaranteed, right?"

Wrong. And this myth costs couples thousands every year. πŸ‘‡

❌ MYTH: A genuine relationship = automatic Partner Visa approval.

βœ… TRUTH: The Department of Home Affairs refuses Partner Visas every single day β€” and most refusals aren't fake relationships. They're REAL couples with weak evidence.

Here's what makes it so high-stakes:

πŸ’Έ The government fee is over AUD $12,000 β€” and it's NON-REFUNDABLE if you're refused
πŸ“ "We have lots of photos" is not an evidence strategy
⏳ A refusal stays on your migration record and can affect future applications

The difference between a grant and a refusal is almost never the relationship. It's the preparation.

At Auslife, your Partner Visa is prepared under the supervision of an Australian Legal Practitioner β€” with a clear evidence strategy across all four pillars the Department actually assesses: financial, household, social, and commitment.

πŸ’¬ Thinking about a Partner Visa? Send us a message for a free initial assessment β€” and ask about our staged payment plans. You pay as your case progresses, not everything upfront.

Skilled migration to Australia comes down to one number: your points. πŸ“Š

For the Subclass 189, 190 and 491 visas, you need at least 65 points to submit an Expression of Interest.

But here's the part that catches people out πŸ‘‡

65 is the floor β€” not the finish line. It gets your EOI into the pool. It doesn't get you invited. In 2026, many popular occupations (accounting, IT, engineering) are seeing invitations only for scores of 80–90+.

The good news? Points are more moveable than most people realise:

πŸ”Ή English β€” jumping from IELTS 7 to 8 can add 10 points (that's the equivalent of years of work experience)
πŸ”Ή State or regional nomination β€” adds 5 points (190) or 15 points (491)
πŸ”Ή Partner skills, Professional Year, community language β€” often the difference between waiting and being invited

Two people with identical scores? The one who lodged their EOI earlier gets invited first. So the worst thing you can do is wait.

πŸ“© Want to know your real score β€” and the fastest ways to lift it? DM us "POINTS" or book a consult (link in bio).

Skilled Migration Myth: "I'll get my skills assessed after I submit my EOI."

This is one of the most common mix-ups we see β€” and it can cost you months.

Here's the correct order of operations:
1️⃣ Get your skills assessed first β€” this confirms your occupation is correctly matched to your actual qualifications and work experience
2️⃣ Calculate your points accurately β€” based on a completed assessment, not a guess
3️⃣ Then submit your EOI β€” so what you've lodged is accurate from day one

Why it matters: your EOI ranks you in the SkillSelect pool based on the points you claim. If your skills assessment isn't done yet, or doesn't match what you've claimed, you're either ranked incorrectly or left scrambling to fix it after an invitation arrives β€” when you're on the clock.

Getting the assessment done properly, upfront, means there are no surprises later β€” just a clean, accurate EOI that reflects where you actually stand.

πŸ’¬ Not sure if your occupation and experience line up? Send us a message β€” happy to point you in the right direction.

Myth-buster: "You have to be married to apply for a Partner Visa" πŸ’

❌ Myth: Only married couples can apply.

βœ… Fact: Australia's Partner Visa covers both married and de facto couples. If you've been in a genuine relationship for 12+ months (living together, sharing finances, building a life together), you may be eligible β€” ring or no ring.

Same-sex couples? Same pathway, same requirements, same fees.

No difference.

Engaged but not living together yet? There's a separate visa for that too (Prospective Marriage Visa) β€” so even pre-marriage couples have an option.

The real question isn't "are we married enough" β€” it's "can we evidence a genuine relationship." That's where most applications succeed or stall.

πŸ’¬ Wondering which Partner Visa pathway fits your situation? Send us a message β€” we'll point you in the right direction.

MOST recent changes to the 485 (Temporary Graduate) visa β€” here's what recent international grads need to know:

# Application fee has increased to around $4,600 for the main applicant
# Age limit dropped from 50 to 35 (some exceptions for Masters by Research/PhD)
# English requirement raised to IELTS 6.5 overall

If you're completing your degree this year, these changes mean less room for error β€” and there's no refund if your application is refused.

The 485 is still one of the best bridges to skilled migration or employer sponsorship, but the strategy now matters more than ever.

BUSTED : Once you're on a 482 (Skills in Demand) visa, you can't leave your sponsoring employer β€” or you lose your visa instantly.

THINK AGAIN : You can change employers on a 482. You just need your new employer to sponsor you (nominate you) for the same visa β€” and there's a grace period if you stop working for your current sponsor while you sort that out.
What you can't do: just start working for someone else without a new nomination in place, or work outside the terms of your visa.
Thinking about a job change on a 482? Talk to us before you resign β€” timing matters.
