Let’s start with me. Setting the stage and then painting a narrative.

Image 1 is a notification from the work place. Lifts not working. Stairs are definitely accessible and usable should we be on the single digit floors. But there is a mezanine floor. And the Firm is on the 17th floor. So...walking up will involve pulled muscles, cramps, groans, shouts, complaints, or all of the above. I say this from personal experience.

Against that backdrop, we (instead of heading to the Firm) decided to instead just have a nice meal. Where we can all take the time to catch-up and laugh.

Our agreed location bears a lot of meaning and context.

Yaasin Jamal has been a strong advocate of Suki-Ya. When we discovered there was an outlet in Pavilion Damansara, we happily informed him.

Then the lunch happened. He recommended dishes. He advocated the proper way to cook and eat our meals.

The takeaway point for me was that he gladly and happily offered to make what I believe is the best ever created sauce...EVER.

So here’s to the newly created hotpot-group of people comprising Yaasin Jamal, Lai Zhi Ru, Zarif Izzat, Jas Lim, Jie Wei Yew, Nur Nadrah Imani.

Several weeks ago, it was all hands on deck for the Firm where we stripped volumes of bundled papers (didn‘t realise we were holding on to documents pre-Covid). It took us several days but we did it, thanks to team work and of course jokes and laughter.

When the professionals came to haul it away to be shredded and recycled, the weightage came to a whopping 690kg.

With all that hard work, we rewarded ourselves with dinner yesterday at Carnaval Churrascaria.

Verdict - delicious food, good company and ultimately food coma :-)

It’s been awhile since the firm had its weekly KE Sessions. Last week, suggested we all take the Myers and Briggs Personality Test. She also suggested the SBTI personality test. This I later realised is an initialism for Silly Behavioral Type Indicator.  With did both tests.

Generally we are of different personalities. A good bedrock for different angles and views on situations. That was for the MBTI personality test. As for the SBTI personality test, hilarity ensued.

To cap Friday evening and for the conclusion of a long week, we played Monopoly. No crazy partying. Just a not so quiet game of Monopoly. And not just any ordinary Monopoly. It’s Monopoly (MALAYSIA Edition).

There was a lot riding on our first escape room session as a firm. Top on the list was whether we could “escape” within time. Bragging rights were at stake. Also work relations could be frayed.

With trepidation we were led into a dark room and assisted only by one source of portable light. For our first task, it took a grand total of 13 minutes to find the main source of light. Not the best of starts.

However, we soon got our groove and we found ourselves more ably in our communications with one another. Truth be told, I was concerned that there would be violent exchanges of ideas. I am glad such concerns didn’t materialise.

So did we make it out within the prescribed time? OH YES!!! In fact we had 12 minutes to spare. AND there was no fights. AND we escaped unscathed :-)

With next week ushering in Hari Raya, we at the Firm are glad to have had a chance to buka puasa together.

It was nice that everyone dressed up. All looking absolutely wonderful, as always.

Food was great, company even better.

p.s. It was unplanned but collectively we had a nice colour shading going as well 😊.

To a good start of the year. Extending a warm welcome to the firm’s latest pupil Jie Wei Yew.

When asked to pen down some words, here’s what she has to say:-

“Hey, I’m Jiewei! After years of studying and preparing for this moment, the real learning finally begins. I’m truly thankful for the opportunity to start my journey as a Pupil-in-Chambers at Messrs Choo Dee Wei.

I am excited (and a little nervous) to step into practice, learn from experienced practitioners, grow through real work, and do my very best in contributing to Messrs Choo Dee Wei.”

Here’s to you, women of the world. Today (8.3.2026) and in actual fact every day, we celebrate you.

Giving a warm welcome to Zarif Izzat as an associate and a new addition to the Firm.

We’ve asked him to say a few words (unedited and unadulterated):-

“Hi peeps! I’m Zarif, a (not so) newly admitted Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

From deciding to pursue law, surviving law school and pupillage, the journey has been filled with nothing short of challenges that demanded grit, adaptability, and growth. Each stage shaped the lawyer I am today and ultimately led me here. And today, that journey brings me to Messrs Choo Dee Wei.

A new desk, a new team, which means a whole set of new challenges, and hopefully fewer emails after 10pm (crossing fingers). I am looking forward to working with a great group of people, taking on complex and interesting matters, whilst continuing to grow in this new chapter.

My gratitude goes out to Choo Dee Wei for the opportunity, and I am truly excited for what lies ahead.”
