🇲🇾 What happens after you receive a Letter of Demand?

Many people assume that once a Letter of Demand (LOD) is issued, the legal process has already begun.

In reality, it’s only the first step.

A Letter of Demand is intended to formally notify the other party of the claim and give them an opportunity to resolve the matter before legal proceedings become necessary.

If there is still no response, the dispute may then proceed to court.

One important point that many people don’t know is this:

Never ignore court documents.

Some people believe that if they don’t attend court, nothing will happen.

Unfortunately, that’s not how the law works.

Legal proceedings can continue even if you fail to appear, and the court may make a decision based on the available evidence. By the time you try to respond, it may be much harder to protect your position.

Whether you’re trying to recover a debt or have become involved in a debt dispute, understanding the legal process is invaluable.

🇲🇾 Does sending a lawyer’s letter mean you’ve officially started legal action to recover a debt?

Many people believe that once a Letter of Demand is issued, the matter has already entered the legal process.

The truth is, not quite.

A Letter of Demand is an important first step in debt recovery, but it is only one part of the overall process. Its purpose is to formally notify the debtor, set out the claim, and provide an opportunity to resolve the matter before legal proceedings become necessary.

If you assume that sending a lawyer’s letter is the end of the process, you may delay taking the next appropriate steps and risk affecting your legal rights.

Learning a little about the law isn’t about preparing to sue someone.

It’s about knowing when and how to protect your rights when the situation calls for it.

I hope this video helps clear up a common misconception and gives you a better understanding of the debt recovery process.

🇲🇾 “He owes me money. I can sue him anytime.”

This is one of the biggest misconceptions I hear.

Many people believe that as long as someone owes them money, they can wait 10 or even 20 years before taking action.

But that’s not always true.

Under Malaysian law, there are time limits for bringing certain legal claims.

That doesn’t mean every debt becomes unrecoverable after 6 years—every case depends on its own facts. However, don’t make the mistake of waiting indefinitely just because the other party keeps saying:

“I’ll pay you soon.”

Sometimes, delaying action can make protecting your rights much more difficult.

Legal knowledge isn’t about being confrontational.

It’s about knowing when to act, what your rights are, and how to protect yourself before it’s too late. 💪🏻

I hope this video gives you a clearer understanding of debt recovery and helps you avoid common legal pitfalls.

How many more 10 years do we have?

None of us truly knows.

So cherish this year.

Cherish this month.

Cherish today.

And cherish the people who are part of your journey.

Because one day, we may not remember every case, every achievement, or every milestone.

But we will remember the people who walked alongside us. ❤️🌈

Looking at these two photos, I am reminded of how quickly time passes.

It feels like yesterday that we were celebrating your graduation. Today, we are celebrating a new chapter in your journey.

At Gary Lee & Partners, we have a tradition called “Exit Evaluation.”

Whenever a team member leaves, we gather together one last time—not to say goodbye, but to reflect.

We share openly:

* What we appreciate about one another.
* What we have learned from each other.
* Where we can continue to improve.

The person leaving then does the same for us.

Over the years, I have come to treasure this tradition because it reminds us that growth is always a two-way journey.

Today, during the session, I turned to my partner Daniel and said:

“Our child has grown up. Let her go and see the world.”

As mentors and leaders, we invest not only our time, but also our hearts into the people who walk through our doors.

Of course, part of us wishes they would stay forever.

But we cannot be selfish.

Just like parents, there comes a time when we must let our children pursue their own dreams, discover their own path, and create their own future.

Jocelyn,

Thank you for your dedication, your contributions, and the countless memories we have shared.

Thank you for trusting us with a chapter of your life.

Thank you for the honest feedback, the laughter, the challenges, and the growth.

While your journey now takes you elsewhere, know that Gary Lee & Partners will always be cheering for you from afar.

And if one day you are tired, lost, or simply need a place to return to, our door will always remain open.

Because once you become part of our story, you will always have a place in our hearts.

The true success of a mentor is not measured by how many people stay.

It is measured by how many people leave stronger, wiser, and more confident than when they first arrived.

Thank you, Jocelyn.

From Graduation to New Beginnings.

We are proud of you.

Wishing you every success, happiness, and fulfillment in the journey ahead. ❤️

Being a landlord sounds easy…

Until your tenant stops paying rent 💀

Then suddenly,
you realise:
collecting rent and getting your property back are two very different things.

In this podcast with Lawyer Tea & iherng,
we talked about:

* tenants refusing to pay rent
* landlord rights in Malaysia
* tenancy disputes
* distress action
* common mistakes landlords make
* and what you legally can (and cannot) do

Not legal jargon.
Just a real conversation about real Malaysian property problems.

Because honestly…
many property owners only learn these things when problems already happen.

Nobody really likes talking about death.

But somehow…
we ended up laughing while talking about it 💀

And honestly?
Maybe these are the conversations we should’ve had earlier.

Not a legal lecture.
Not some boring “adulting” talk.

Just 3 people talking about:
family,
property,
what happens after we’re gone,
and how not to leave a mess for the people we love.

Because one day,
someone will have to handle everything we leave behind.

From that first step on 22.2.2023…
to this moment on 3.4.2026.

Nothing happened overnight.

Every laugh,
every challenge,
every ordinary day—

led to this.

Because growth
is not built in one moment,
but in many moments
no one sees.

Proud of you, ❤️
This is only the beginning.

Avril ❤️
