The Ministry of Human Resources has officially announced the public holidays for Wesak Day (31 May 2026) and the Agong’s Birthday (1 June 2026).

For employers and HR teams, this serves as an important reminder to review leave arrangements, payroll compliance, and public holiday entitlements under the Employment Act 1955.

Key points to note:
• The Agong’s Birthday is a mandatory public holiday and cannot be replaced with another day.
• As Wesak Day falls on a Sunday, a replacement holiday may apply depending on the company’s designated rest day policy.
• For employers observing Sunday as the weekly rest day, 2 June 2026 (Tuesday) may become the replacement public holiday for Wesak Day.

Employers are encouraged to review their internal policies and operational arrangements early to ensure compliance and smooth business continuity.

人力资源部日前正式公布 2026 年卫塞节（5月31日）及国家元首华诞（6月1日）公共假期安排。

对于雇主及人力资源部门而言，这也是一个适时检视员工假期安排、薪资计算及《1955年劳工法令》合规事项的重要提醒。

重点包括：
• 国家元首华诞属于法定强制公共假期，不可由其他日期替代。
• 由于卫塞节落在星期日，是否享有补假，将取决于公司的休息日制度。
• 若公司以星期日为员工固定休息日，则 2026 年 6 月 2 日（星期二）可能成为卫塞节的补假日。

雇主应提早检视公司政策及营运安排，以确保符合法律规定并维持业务顺畅运作。

We are pleased to announce that Darren Ee Kin Chung has joined Yeoh Shim Siow & Lay Kuan (YSLK) as the Head of our Criminal Department.

Darren brings with him extensive experience in criminal litigation, having handled a wide spectrum of matters, including drug-related offences, commercial crime cases, sexual offences and immigration cases.

In addition to his criminal practice, Darren is also active in civil litigation, including debt recovery, contractual disputes, and enforcement proceedings. His dual expertise enables him to deliver practical, strategic, and well-rounded legal solutions.

His appointment marks a significant step in strengthening YSLK’s criminal defence and dispute resolution capabilities.
