The latest news reporting that fishermen are now catching more plastic waste than fish should be a wake-up call for all of us. Along Malaysia’s west coast, fishermen are seeing declining catches while plastic debris continues to fill their nets — a clear sign that marine pollution is worsening and threatening livelihoods, food security, and our environment.
At Warisan Sungai Klang, this is exactly why our river conservation efforts matter. What begins as litter in drains, streets, and rivers often ends up in the sea. Protecting our rivers means protecting our oceans, fisheries, and future generations.
Every plastic bottle thrown irresponsibly, every drain clogged with waste, and every polluted river eventually contributes to a much bigger crisis downstream.
We call on the public, businesses, schools, and communities to play their part:
✅ Reduce single-use plastics
✅ Dispose waste responsibly
✅ Join river clean-up programmes
✅ Support environmental education
✅ Protect our waterways together
A cleaner Sungai Klang means a cleaner coastline and healthier seas.
The change starts upstream. 🌿
GEORGE TOWN: Fishermen along Malaysia’s west coast are seeing more plastic in their nets — but what they cannot see may pose an even greater threat.
