On 01.04.2022, our Partners received a call from our client in New Zealand. She was in the midst of applying for permanent residency for her adoptive daughter but the process was halted when the Immigration of New Zealand queried the legitimacy of the adoption procedure which was done in 2009 back in Malaysia.

We furnished the Immigration of New Zealand with an extensive opinion to legally equip the immigration department in assessing the legitimacy of the said adoption. In preparing our legal opinion, among other things, we held various interviews with our client's family members, coordinated with the National Registration Department of Malaysia and conducted extensive research on the Registration of Adoption Act 1952 as well as the interpretation of the same.

On 24.05.2022, our client contacted us to inform that the permanent residency application was allowed and she thanked us immensely in aiding the same. We are extremely pleased that we were able to assist our client in the application.
