From 2 to 4 December 2025, our Managing Partner Hafiz Zubir participated in a three-day workshop organised by Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka (DBP) titled Bengkel Penyediaan Garis Panduan Penggunaan Petikan DBP.

Held at Zenith Hotel, Putrajaya, he served as one of the panellists representing the IP legal practitioner, alongside academicians, IP law experts, and IP administrators.

The objective of the workshop was to develop a comprehensive guideline on the use of DBP excerpts that is consistent with Malaysia’s copyright framework.

Throughout the workshop, he contributed by advising DBP’s administrative team on legal compliance, refining the structure of the guidelines, and ensuring that the final document achieves both clarity and practical applicability.

It was an intensive but meaningful effort, and we look forward to the publication of DBP’s new guideline in due course.

Last Saturday, 6 December 2025, our Managing Partner Hafiz Zubir participated in Wacana III: Kelestarian Seni Visual dan Ekonomi Seniman: Dialog Royalti Seni, alongside other distinguished panellists including:

*Dr Mohd Syaufiq Abdul Latif
*Pn Haryany Mohamad

The e-webinar was held to strengthen awareness of copyright and royalties among Malaysia’s creative industry players.

During the session, he presented on copyright law in Malaysia, offering practical insights into how the law protects artistic works and why fair remuneration remains a vital component of a sustainable creative ecosystem.

He also discussed the potential implementation of resale royalty rights in Malaysia, drawing reference from established international models such as:

* Australia’s Resale Royalty Right for Visual Artists Act 2009
* The EU’s Directive 2001/84/EC on the Resale Right
* The UK’s Artist’s Resale Right Regulations 2006

A meaningful discussion overall, and we look forward to more dialogues that support and uplift Malaysia’s creative community.
