BREMA Supports Historic Launch of Long-Acting HIV prevention

BREMA SAFE HOME yesterday day joined the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, the United States Government, UNAIDS, the National AIDS Commission and other partners in the official launch of the Lenacapavir (LEN) injection for HIV prevention at Area 25 Health Centre in Lilongwe.

As Malawi introduces this groundbreaking long-acting HIV prevention option, BREMA was on the ground providing integrated HIV prevention services, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that vulnerable communities and key populations have access to life-saving

The launch, officiated by the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Honourable Madalitso Baloyi, MP, marks a major milestone in Malawi’s HIV response. Lenacapavir, administered just twice a year, provides an additional HIV prevention option for people at high risk of HIV infection, helping to address challenges associated with taking a daily prevention pill.

For many vulnerable populations and key populations, including young women, s*x workers and other groups extremely affected by HIV, this innovation has the potential to improve adherence, reduce stigma and expand access to effective HIV prevention.

Yesterday’s launch is more than the introduction of a new HIV prevention product, it represents renewed hope for communities at increased risk of HIV infection and strengthens Malawi’s journey towards ending AIDS as a public health threat.

Today, through our Youth Integrated in Climate Change and Environmental Care Services Initiative, we successfully established a composting pit where organic waste, maize husks (gaga), and ash have been carefully layered to produce natural manure within 21 days.

This initiative promotes sustainable waste management by transforming waste into valuable organic fertilizer for agriculture while reducing environmental pollution. Alongside our plastic recycling activities, we are demonstrating that waste is not rubbish—it is a resource that can create opportunities, improve soil fertility, and protect our environment.

Together, we are building cleaner communities, empowering young people, and contributing to climate change mitigation.
