Hot Off the Bench!!!!!!

Justice Fiona Mwale discusses the legal recognition of marriages by repute and/or cohabitation in Malawi and the procedure for dissolution of said marriages. The Court determined that legal recognition of such unions serves to protect the rights of parties in the event of dissolution and is therefore recognized only for specific purposes such as rights to inheritance, matrimonial property distribution, child custody and maintenance. It was a Great interaction with the Library Team at Mzuzu University lead by the Acting University Librarian Lizzie Malemia who has appreciated the introduction of the www.malawilii.org website as this will improve the provision of legal resources for the students and also as an institution. This visit has also expanded its network which has exposed them to the access to legal information through the www.malawilii.org website and they are looking forward to more collaboration and engagement in legal resource provision.
