Myanmar has taken a significant step forward in protecting its local products and heritage.
With the issuance of Geographical Indication (GI) Rules No. 103/2025, the Department of Intellectual Property has introduced a clear framework covering registration, use, and enforcement of GIs under the Trademark Law 2019.
The new rules outline:
✅️ Who can apply for GI protection
✅️ How to register and manage a GI
✅️ Requirements for using the official GI logo
✅️ Procedures for opposition, amendment, and cancellation
While the official launch date for applications and fee structure is still pending, businesses and producer groups should begin preparing now.
