The 2025 NUL Jessup Team: A Story of Resilience Beyond Borders

The 2025 National University of Lesotho Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Team carries a story that deserves to be told not one of failure, but of resilience, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Despite qualifying and preparing extensively for the international rounds, the team was unable to travel abroad due to circumstances beyond their control. A flight sponsor was willing to assist; however, without visas in place, that support could not be activated. As a result, the team did not get the opportunity to compete on the international stage.

Yet, their journey did not end there. Refusing to allow disappointment to define them, the team sought alternative avenues to grow and test their advocacy skills. Through determination and initiative, they travelled to Cape Town, where they participated in friendly moot court matches engaging with fellow law students, sharpening their oral advocacy, and representing NUL with pride and professionalism.

This team’s story is a powerful reminder that progress is not always linear, and that value is not measured only by where you arrive, but by how you persist when doors temporarily close.
The 2025 NUL Jessup Team may not have crossed borders but they strengthened a legacy.

The 2024 NUL Jessup Team: Four Women, One Nation, One Global Stage🇱🇸⚖️

In 2024, history was made.
The National University of Lesotho Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Team crossed borders and oceans to represent not only the University, but the Kingdom of Lesotho itself in person, in Washington, D.C., United States of America.

This was a team of four exceptional young women who carried their preparation, discipline, and courage onto one of the most competitive international legal stages in the world. Standing before judges and peers from across the globe, they argued international law with confidence, intellect, and pride proving that Basotho women belong in global legal spaces.

Their journey was not merely about participation. It was about visibility. Representation. And possibility. By stepping into those courtrooms in Washington, D.C., the 2024 team expanded the NUL Jessup legacy and inspired future teams to believe that international stages are within reach when preparation meets opportunity and when support meets potential.

They did not just travel to the United States.
They carried a flag.
They carried a legacy.
And they showed the world what four determined women from Lesotho can achieve.

🇱🇸⚖️ We do not walk this journey alone. And we never have.

The National University of Lesotho Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Team stands today because teams before us stood here first; hopeful, determined, and driven by a belief in excellence. Those teams made it to the international stage because people believed in them, saw potential in them, and chose to support their journey.

Over the coming days, we will be sharing our NUL Jessup alumni. Their stories are proof that sponsorship matters. They are living testimony that when young legal minds are supported, they rise academically, professionally, and nationally.
Their success gives us confidence. Their journey gives us hope.

It reminds us that support given in faith does not end with one team; it builds a legacy. And it is through this legacy that we believe, once again, that there are individuals and institutions who will see promise in us and help carry the name of the National University of Lesotho and our country onto the global stage.

Jessup at NUL is more than a competition.
It is a tradition.
It is a legacy.

🇱🇸 Representing Lesotho on the International Stage — A Call for Support 🇱🇸

Following the successful submission of our memorials, the National University of Lesotho Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Team has officially qualified for the International Rounds of the world’s largest and most prestigious international law moot court competition.

This achievement is more than an academic milestone. It is a national one.

By 28 March, a team of four NUL law students will wear their gowns and bibs, stand before the international legal community, and represent not only the National University of Lesotho, but the Kingdom of Lesotho as a whole. They will go out not as individuals, but as country bearers — carrying our flag, our voice, and our legal capacity onto the global stage.

However, one reality cannot be ignored: participation at this level requires resources.
Travel, accommodation, and competition-related expenses present a significant financial challenge. Talent, preparation, and merit have taken us this far, but funding is what will get us there.

With humility and sincerity, we are reaching out to law firms, institutions, alumni, corporate partners, and individuals who believe in:

1. Legal education and advocacy excellence
2. Youth development and academic merit
3. Building Lesotho’s presence in international legal spaces

Any form of support : financial contributions, sponsorship, partnerships, or referrals brings us one step closer to standing where Lesotho deserves to be represented.

We are deeply grateful for every show of support, encouragement, and belief in this journey.
Together, we can ensure that when Lesotho is called, we are present, prepared, and proud.

We often overlook the small moments that quietly build into something significant.

Yesterday, I asked the team to check the team email [email protected] and tell me what they saw.

As of 20 January 2026, the National University of Lesotho Jessup Team has officially advanced to the International Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
This achievement reflects months of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Every draft, every correction, and every late night contributed to this milestone.

We take a moment to acknowledge the work done, then we move forward with focus and purpose.

We pause to acknowledge the work.
We recognise the growth.
And we move forward with purpose.
International rounds await.
We proceed, prepared!

The journey continues. 🌍⚖️

If there is one lesson the Jessup Competition teaches unequivocally, it is the value of time. Not merely the passage of it, but its disciplined use. Every minute must justify its existence; every argument must earn its place.

Through demanding materials and exacting feedback from our coaches, we learned that in Jessup, time is of the essence and substance is non-negotiable.

After months of drafting, redrafting, and rigorous review, the National University of Lesotho Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Team has of the 12th January 2026 officially submitted its Applicant and Respondent Memorials for the 2026 Competition.

This milestone represents sustained commitment, intensive research, and careful engagement with complex questions of public international law before the International Court of Justice.
