BAWODA Liberia BAWODA is a community-based, women-led association working to increase the leadership capacities of women and girls in resource-rich Grand Bassa County.

The association trains and mentors emerging women leaders to become organizers and mobilizers within their communities. BAWODA is part of a local task force that oversees gender issues and is a member of the national-level committee of women using media to advance women’s rights. Our Vision: To see a world in which women, children and youth are treated fairly, equally and are able to advocate for themselves and other people.

Our institution NAYMOTE-Liberia with funding from UNDP has began the rollout of its project "Advancing Civic Engagement on Benefits and Support for LGA 2018" with a townhall meeting on the Local Government Act being at the B**g County Women Center in Gbarnga, B**g County.

Cross section of citizens including Hon. Esther Walker, Superintendent, B**g County, Project Management Committee, District Commissioners, chiefs, women and youth leaders, etc. are participating and learning about the LGA, benefits the law bring to Liberians, power and authority of the local government, the county council and structure at the county and district levels.

Hon. Esther Walker, Superintendent, B**g County made special statement at the opening session and Hon. Washington Bonnah, District Commissioner, Jorquelleh welcomed participants.

The townhall meeting is truly increasing citizens understanding of the Local Government Act 2018 and inspiring them to lead or drive the decentralization change process.

Confirmation, Honorable, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone has accepted our invitation as a special guest and speaker at the opening session of the Young Political Leadership School Africa cohort 8 in Monrovia, Liberia. Dr. Jalloh is a political scientist, businessman and a former United Nations official.

All is set, today, November 23, 2020 we will commence the seventh cohort of the Young Political Leadership School Africa .

The program will run from November 23-27, 2020 at the Bella Cass Hotel in Monrovia, Liberia. Our facilitators are ready, preparation is great and participants are all excited.

The opening session will bring together dignitaries, ambassadors and great speakers. We look forward to to an awesome week.

NAYMOTE SIXTH GOVERNANCE SURVEY REPORT, 82% OF RESPONDENTS THINK LIBERIA IS GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.

82% of respondents think the country is going or somehow going in the wrong direction while 15% think the country is going or somehow going in the right direction. 89% of the respondents described the current economic conditions in the country as very poor or poor, 92% rated the performance of the government in managing or handling the economy as very poor and poor, 81% rated the government’s performance in managing or handling health services as very poor and poor and 90% of the respondents rated government performance in fighting corruption as very poor and poor.

WATCH OUT FOR LIBERIA’S FIRST INTER-UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE DEBATE COMPETITION ON THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT OF 2018

NAYMOTE-Liberia in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs-Republic of Liberia with support from UNDP Liberia will host Liberia’s first Inter-University and College Debates Competition on the Local Government Act of 2018. The competition is expected to run from November 7 – December 5, 2019 across three counties, namely: B**g, Montserrado, and Grand Bassa.

8 universities and colleges will participate in the competition including: African Methodist Episcopal Univesity (AMEU), United Methodist University (UMU), Stella Maris Polytechnic University, Cuttington University, Smythe Institute of Management and Technology, B**g County Technical College, Grand Bassa Community College and Vision College.

The debate will be held under the theme: “Youth Perspectives on the Local Government Act 2018”, the 1st and 2nd winners of the competition will each walk-away with L$ 100,000.00 and L$ 50,000.00, respectively. The overall goal of the competition is to increase young people participation in local governance and implementation of the Local Government Act 2018.
