Your Lordship,
As you prepare to lay down the robes after an extraordinary judicial career spanning over thirty-six years commencing in 1988-1989, it is with profound respect, immense gratitude, and a touch of sentimentality that we reflect upon your remarkable service to the Bench and the people of Sri Lanka.
For over three and a half decades, Your Lordship has been a steadfast pillar of the Sri Lankan judiciary. Your journey, beginning in the late 1980s, has witnessed significant chapters in our nation's history, and throughout, you have embodied the highest ideals of the legal profession: integrity, wisdom, unwavering principle, and a deep commitment to justice.
Your Lordship's presence on the Supreme Court bench has been a source of immense reassurance. Your judgments, marked by exceptional legal acumen, meticulous reasoning, and a profound understanding of the law's spirit, have not only resolved complex disputes but have also shaped jurisprudence and illuminated the path of justice for countless legal practitioners and future generations. The clarity of your thought and the depth of your compassion, where appropriate, have set a sterling example.
Beyond the written word of judgments, Your Lordship has been revered for personal qualities of dignity, fairness, and quiet strength. Your conduct has been a constant reminder of the nobility inherent in the judicial office and the solemn responsibility it entails. You have served not just with your mind, but with a deep sense of duty to the Constitution and the citizens of this nation.
The year 1988-1989 marked the beginning of a legacy, a legacy built case by case, judgment by judgment, year by dedicated year. That legacy is one of unyielding dedication, intellectual rigour, and an unshakeable commitment to upholding the rule of law. You leave behind a judiciary indelibly marked by your contributions and profoundly grateful for your service.
As you embark on this well-deserved retirement, the legal fraternity and the nation you served so faithfully extend our deepest appreciation. We wish you a retirement filled with peace, contentment, good health, and the joyful pursuit of your personal interests, surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Thank you, Your Lordship, for your exceptional service, your unwavering integrity, and for dedicating the best years of your life to the noble cause of justice in Sri Lanka. Your presence on the Bench will be greatly missed, but your contributions and the standards you set will endure.
With the utmost respect, admiration, and warmest wishes,
