Happy International Blue Iguana Day!

We’re thrilled to celebrate new hope for one of the world’s rarest reptiles as the next generation of Grand Cayman Blue Iguanas is officially on the way. Following a successful breeding season, Lady Pop, nearing an incredible 37 years old, was paired with our very own Iggy Stardust and has since laid 22 eggs, with hatchlings expected in just a few months.

This marks 23 years of our long‑standing support of the National Trust’s Blue Iguana Conservation Programme, helping the wild population recover from just a few dozen to more than 1,200 today. We’re especially delighted to be connected to Iggy Stardust, a proven contributor to the programme’s success, and to share this story through our plush mascot Iggy, who helps spread awareness in the Cayman Islands and around the globe.

Together with the National Trust for the Cayman Islands and the Cayman community, we remain committed to protecting this iconic species.

Our Cayman office was recently recognised as a Chamber Champion by the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce!

Over the past year, we’ve been honoured to support impactful initiatives like Leadership Cayman, the Parliamentary Luncheon and the Chamber Earth Day Clean-Up. A special highlight was joining more than 3,500 volunteers island wide to help keep Cayman clean and green.

Thank you to everyone who took part and continues to represent our values in the community. We look forward to another year of collaboration, leadership and positive impact with the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce.

Our Bermuda team came together at Turtle Hill Golf Club for the Third Annual Jonnie Betts Memorial Golf Tournament, honouring the memory and lasting impact of our dear colleague and friend, Jonathan Betts. From friendly competition to the return of our much loved 'Socks for Shots' tradition, it was a special afternoon of remembrance, connection and celebration.

'Jonnie was an incredibly important part of our firm, and his influence continues to be felt today,' said Kevin Taylor, managing partner of our Bermuda office. 'This tournament is a powerful reminder to all of us, including those who didn’t have the privilege of knowing Jonnie personally, of his memory and the lasting impact he has had on our people and our culture.'

Another successful year of our Legal Mentorship Programme!

Since launching on 7 January 2026, our Cayman office has had the pleasure of mentoring seven students from John Gray High School, Clifton Hunter High School and Layman Scott High School. Each student was paired with one of our Newly Qualified (NQ) lawyers for bi weekly virtual sessions, discussing everything from the foundations of law to real world career paths in the legal profession.

To close out this year’s programme, we welcomed all mentees for two days of in office work experience this week. This annual tradition gives students the chance to meet our legal teams, experience life inside a law firm and connect with their mentors over lunch.

This year’s mentees were: Kiley Scott, Annae Danielle Brathwaite, Antoniel McDonald, Dianni Maxwell, Jaiden Thomas, Kaylie McDonald and Khalia Dawkins. Each paired with a dedicated mentor: Kasie Bowden, Bianca Meghoo, Lauren Mae Vernon, Florence Allan, Eli Samson, Benjami Black and Joanna Cameron.

A huge thank you to our dedicated mentors for their continued commitment to guiding Cayman’s future legal talent. Your support helps inspire the next generation of professionals in our community.

In recognition of International Women in Tech Day on 4 April, we’re proud to spotlight the women shaping technology at Walkers in the Cayman Islands.

Nicocia Jones and Jehquisa Buchanan are making history as Walkers’ first all female IT Trainee cohort, building skills, confidence and momentum as they begin their careers in technology.

Alongside Kenya McDermott, Nthabiseng Makena and Hillary Lindo, they represent the power of representation at every stage of the tech journey, from emerging talent to experienced professionals.

As we mark International Women in Tech Day, we celebrate their impact and the pathways they’re helping to create for the next generation of women in tech.

A big thank you and congratulations to everyone in our Cayman office who took part in the Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge on Sunday, 29 March. With colleagues participating alongside their families, whether running, jogging, walking or cheering from the sidelines, your involvement helped make this milestone event a truly memorable one.

This year’s DG5K was especially significant, marking Deputy Governor Franz Manderson’s final 5K Challenge as he prepares to retire later this year. The sold out event saw around 3,000 participants take to the streets of George Town in a powerful show of unity, wellness and community spirit.

We were pleased to have supported this year’s event, contributing to an initiative that promotes healthy lifestyles and gives back to the community.

Well done to our colleagues who represented us so positively and contributed to the success of this meaningful farewell event.

As we wrap up International Women’s Month, we’re proud to spotlight two remarkable women whose leadership, expertise and generosity embody the spirit of this year’s global theme: 'give to gain.'

Meet Tamara Tanis and Otelia Scott.

Drawing on her analytical training, Tamara applies her actuarial science background across the firm, helping to drive impactful solutions while championing DEI and community-focused initiatives. Her commitment to creating inclusive opportunities reflects her belief that when we invest in others, we elevate the whole organisation.

At the heart of the firm's culture of support is leader Otelia Scott, who reminds us of the power of mentorship: 'Mentorship is one of the most powerful tools we have. When we take the time to recognise someone’s potential, even before they see it themselves, we open doors that can change the course of a career.'

Her dedication to guiding people toward new opportunities has shaped countless journeys and continues to strengthen the foundation of our teams.

This is just the beginning. Stay tuned as we continue to feature more incredible women shaping innovation, culture and impact at Walkers.
