A law student in Poland emailed us out of the blue this spring. He was writing his master's thesis on self-defense, recidivism and sentencing in Poland and South Korea, and he had found the four Korean rulings he needed cited in our article — but couldn't open them from Warsaw.
He wasn't a client. He wasn't going to become one. He just asked.
Aaron Hwang, our principal attorney, sent all four judgments the same week, and told him only one thing in return: share the finished thesis with us.
In July he came to Korea for a month, stopped by our office in Seoul, and brought a gift from Poland.
This is the part of the work that doesn't show up on an invoice — and it's a large part of why we started this firm. If you need help understanding Korean law, ask. Wherever you're writing from.
