2.Course Length: 3 years: 3rd July 2023 – 11th April 2026
3.Tuition Fees and Support
The full University tuition fees will be paid by Health Education
Improvement Wales (HEIW) and support towards living costs will be provided via a £1,000 non-means tested grant.
4.Living Cost Value: £8,300 or local equivalent When applicants apply for a visa, they must be able to provide a bank
statement from their personal bank or building society account evidencing that the minimum balance of £8,300 has been in their bank for a continuous period of 28 days.
5.Career Prospects: This course is commissioned by Health Education Improvement Wales (HEIW), who will cover the full tuition fee payment and provide a non means tested grant of £1,000. In exchange applicants must commit to working within NHS Wales for a period of two years, commencing employment within three months of
successful completion of the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) course, where
the course is three years in duration. HEIW co-ordinate employment opportunities in NHS Wales for graduating students, in a process known as ‘streamlining’.
If applicants fail to work within Wales for the required two-year period, they will be subject to the repayment provisions as set out in the bursary agreement. NHS Bursary - HEIW

Qualifications: Equivalent of BBB at A’ Level and
Equivalent of GCSE Maths Grade C English Language
Requirements:
Applicants must have IELTS at 6.5 overall or equivalent (see examples)
the following minimum levels.
• Reading level 6.5
• Listening level 6.5
• Speaking level 6.5
• Writing level 6.5
Examples of Local Equivalents:
India - HSC (12th standard) English at 65-70% or above, depending on
which Board studied
Nigeria / Ghana – C6 NECO/WAEC or better
Kenya – KCSE Grade C or better
Sri Lanka – O Level Grade C or better
Malaysia – SPM (119) C6 or better SPM (English Ordinary) Grade C or
better
To support the development of applicants' English language skills, USW
will timetable mandatory English language sessions to run alongside
your academic sessions.
Criminal Record
Checks:
Within your country, applicants will be required to obtain a clear local
police check and submit evidence of this.
On arrival in the UK, applicants must apply for an enhanced DBS
(Disclosure & Barring Service) to provide confirmation of their criminal
conviction, caution, warning or reprimand status in the UK at a cost of
£56. On successfully obtaining the enhanced DBS certificate applicants
must sign up to and maintain the update service subscription at a yearly
cost of £13.
USW will provide support for this process, but applicants are eligible for
all DBS costs.
Occupational Health
Screening:
On arrival in the UK, applicants will be required to undertake
occupational health screening as part of the course entry requirements.
PUBLIC / CYHOEDDUS
This will include providing information regarding evidence of the
following vaccinations:
• Hepatitis B
• Measles
• Mumps
• Rubella
• Tuberculosis
• Varicella (Chicken Pox)
Where evidence isn't provided you will be required to receive the
relevant vaccination, in order to meet the occupational health
requirements needed to undertake placement.
USW will provide support for this process and payment for any required
vaccinations.

Interview Process: There will be two interview stages:
First Stage
Applicants will undertake a schedule 10–15-minute informal
conversation in English to ensure the applicant genuinely wishes to study
Nursing. This will help demonstrate that the applicant’s English language
proficiency is sufficient to meet the course outcomes. This is a subjective
assessment.
Second stage
Applicants will undertake a scheduled 30-minute online MS Teams
interview between 20th March 2023 and 6th April 2023. The interview
will be undertaken by a panel consisting of one academic staff member,
and either a current student/non-academic staff member or a practicing
clinician.
Information about and interview tips will be provided with applicants
when invited to attend an online interview. Applicants will be scored
using a standardised interview selection matrix.
To meet NMC professional body requirements for admission applicants
must
• have capability to develop numeracy skills required to meet
course outcomes
• demonstrate proficiency in English language
• have capability in literacy to meet course outcomes
• have capability to utilise and develop digital and technological
literacy to meet course outcomes.

Applicants are encouraged to begin Stage 1 - preparing visa
documentation as soon as possible and do not need to wait until they
have their CAS number to do this.
