Kasongo has this evening deployed police water cannons, special security units, and heavy military equipment to secure Masinde Muliro Market in Kitale, in what appears to be an attempt to block Governor George Natembeya from accessing the market tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow, Monday, 19th October 2026, Governor George Natembeya will stand alongside the residents and traders of Trans Nzoia to reclaim Masinde Muliro Market for the people it was built to serve.
The modern market was completed through county government resources and World Bank support to provide genuine local traders with dignified, secure, and affordable trading spaces—not to benefit outsiders or political cartels.
This is bigger than a market; it is a fight for devolution, economic justice, and the rights of ordinary wananchi. Governor Natembeya is determined to ensure that stalls are allocated fairly and that county-funded development projects serve the people, not political interests.
You cannot use state power to intimidate wananchi out of their rights. Devolution must be respected, public resources must serve the public, and Masinde Muliro Market must work for the people of Trans Nzoia!
